Mrs Ruta Jeetendra Awhad: An Inspiring Social Worker & People’s Leader was guest of honour at Woman Iconza Award 2022

It was a moment of pride for Mrs Ruta Jeetendra Awhad, the social worker & political figure who have been always at the forefront of standing up for many social causes to be the Guest of Honour at the Women Iconza 2022 powered by the Times Applaud digital news portal and Namaste Bahrain Magazine. The exemplary People’s leader was also bestowed with a token of gratitude for her outstanding hard work and dedication in helping to transform people’s lives. The scintillating award ceremony that witnessed many distinguished diasporas from all walks of life- social, political, corporates and entertainment, took place at MG Motor India, Mumbai on Thursday, 3rd of March.

Mrs Ruta Jeetendra Awhad revealed a glimpse of her personality before handing out the felicitation’s procedures to all the Women Iconza 2022 Awardees. She thanked the organisers in all humility and said, “I am delighted to have an opportunity to address such exciting & motivating group of females. I am thrilled to share this exciting occasion with such talented gathering.” She further spoke about the most demanding profession- Social Work. According to her, “Taking care of the helpless and destitute has always been the foundational values of any civilized society. In India, the practice is as old as our culture. People who are in a position to help others should come forward and enable disadvantaged people to achieve the best possible levels of personal and social well-being. That’s what I and my family believe in.”

Mrs Ruta Awhad is also a well-known political figure. She hails from a socially motivated family. she grew up in an atmosphere where social movements were a part of their life. Later on, she got married to Mr Jeetendra Awhad who was also an active social and seasoned politician. Currently, he is a Member of the Legislative Assembly (INC) from the Mumbra-Kalwa constituency of Maharashtra. Mrs Ruta Awhad was very keen to serve the needy from the very beginning and she got the chance to work for the people of Maharashtra alongside her husband who has an expert understanding of socio-religious movements & personnel management. Under his guidance, Mrs Ruta Awhad worked on programmes and projects focussing on social justice through social development and social change. During the pandemic, she brought forth the serious consequences of lockdowns in front of her government and fought for the hardship faced by daily labourers.

She is a woman of substance and a very kind lady. She joined Air India as an air hostess soon after her graduation and worked for 28 years before being a complete philanthropist. While serving the airlines, she stood for women empowerment causes. She and her team fought a court battle and won the same. The issue was to nullify the retirement age disparity between men-women air hostesses and to raise the retirement age of women air hostesses from 35 to 58 years on the grounds that women should be considered as serial beauty or an object to be showcased.

Mrs Ruta Jeetendra Awhad has built an independent identity for herself. The women think fearlessly, speaks her mind duly maintains her self-respect in every circumstance she faces. She perfectly adorns the role of wife, mother, mentor and friend. The lady is always ready to provide support, advice and offer resources to one and all.
