Exploring the History, Significance, and Theme of National Science Day 2023

Each year, the 28th of February marks National Science Day, a day to commemorate the discovery of the ‘Raman Effect’ by Indian scientist and physician C.V. Raman. This day is both celebrated and acknowledged by Indians and people from all walks of life across the globe as it reminds us of the impact science has had on our lives.

History of National Science Day The Raman Effect was first put into practice on 28th February 1928 and is a phenomenon where a light beam passes through a transparent material and is scattered in a way that reveals information about the material’s molecular structure.

This incredible discovery earned C.V. Raman a Nobel Prize and India’s Government continues to recognize and celebrate the contributions of other famous scientists to this day. Significance of National Science Day National Science Day is an opportunity to motivate and inspire students to pursue careers in the field of science.

This is made possible through the contributions of Dr. C.V. Raman who was born on November 7, 1888 in Tamil Nadu and has made many significant contributions to the scientific world.
