Nitin Gadkari, the Union Minister of State for highways and road transport, has stated that new ethanol-powered cars, that will run fully on ethanol, will be launched in India. The minister recalled meeting the chairman of the Mercedes Benz firm, which had just introduced an electric vehicle.
Speaking at an event on Sunday in Nagpur, Gadkari stated, “He (Mercedes Benz chairman) told me that they will only make electric vehicles in the future. We are releasing brand-new automobiles that only use ethanol as fuel. Scooters from Bajaj, TVS, and Hero would all operate on 100% ethanol, he claimed. According to the minister, he will introduce the 100% ethanol-powered Toyota Camry automobile, which will also produce 40% of its own electricity, in August. If you compare it to gasoline, it will cost Rs 15 per liter since ethanol costs Rs 60 per liter while gasoline costs Rs 120. Additionally, it will produce 40% of the power. The average will be Rs 15 per litre.”
In an effort to expand the usage of biofuel, Prime Minister Narendra Modi introduced 20% ethanol-blend gasoline in February at a few chosen gas stations in 11 states and union territories. After introducing gasoline with a 20% ethanol mix, PM Modi noted that the percentage of ethanol in gasoline has climbed from 1.5% in 2014 to 10% and is currently going near 20%.
