As team India embarks on a new chapter under Gautam Gambhir’s leadership, former head coach Rahul Dravid has expressed full confidence in his successor. After concluding his tenure with a remarkable T20 World Cup triumph in the Caribbean, Dravid passed the coaching reins to Gambhir, who kicked off his tenure with the Sri Lanka tour in July-August.
Speaking at an event recently, Dravid expressed his belief that Gambhir would excel in his new role. He (Gambhir) has got a lot of experience, both as a player and coach. I am sure he will be great, Dravid said. He added that every coach brings unique experiences and insights, and he expects Gambhir’s knowledge to benefit the Indian team significantly.
Dravid’s tenure as India’s head coach saw several notable achievements, including leading the team to the finals of both the ODI World Cup and the World Test Championship. His final campaign was capped off with the T20 World Cup victory, leaving a solid foundation for Gambhir to build upon.
Gambhir’s first major challenge begins with India’s Test season starting Thursday. Over the next four months, the team will play a total of 10 Test matches, including two against Bangladesh and three against New Zealand, before heading to Australia for a five-match series.
