The deadline for all Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises to announce their player retention list is fast approaching, with the cut-off set for 5 PM on October 31, 2024. Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) finds itself facing one of the toughest decisions of all the teams. While Virat Kohli and Mohammed Siraj are confirmed as key retentions, uncertainty surrounds the fate of other international stars, including Glenn Maxwell, Cameron Green, and Will Jacks.
According to reports from Hindustan Times, RCB is unlikely to retain Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell. Maxwell had a disappointing 2024 season, managing just 129 runs in 10 matches and taking only six wickets. His lackluster performance, coupled with a mid-season break due to mental health reasons, has put his position with the team in jeopardy. Despite returning for some critical games, Maxwell’s form remained subpar, making his retention for the 2025 season highly unlikely.
On the other hand, Virat Kohli and Mohammed Siraj are all but guaranteed to stay with RCB. Kohli, a stalwart of the franchise, and Siraj, who has been in excellent form, are seen as the backbone of the team.
RCB is also grappling with the decision of whether to retain Australian all-rounder Cameron Green. Green’s performances have been impressive, but a recent injury has complicated the situation. The franchise may be hesitant to take the risk of retaining him without assurance about his fitness. The final decision regarding Green, as well as England’s Will Jacks, will likely come down to the wire as RCB evaluates its strategy for the upcoming season.
