Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma (RGV) recently shared his candid thoughts on Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Animal during a live conversation with the director, captivating an excited audience. Known for his outspoken nature, RGV didn’t shy away from praising the film’s action sequences while openly critiquing its emotional storyline, sparking discussions about the film’s themes of violence and family dynamics.
RGV revealed that the moment Ranbir Kapoor’s character entered a classroom wielding an assault rifle was a turning point for him. While the scene has drawn criticism for its overt violence, RGV explained that it was this bold portrayal that made him connect with the protagonist.
“For me, the moment this guy comes back with a machine gun, I decided to love the film. After that, I didn’t care what happens in the rest of the film,” he admitted during the conversation, posted on his YouTube channel.
RGV stood up and applauded the sequence, emphasizing that such high-intensity moments are what resonate with him in cinema.
While he praised the action, RGV confessed that he struggled to connect with the film’s emotional core, particularly the father-son relationship between Ranbir Kapoor’s and Anil Kapoor’s characters.
“His love for his father is the last thing that affected me. I was constantly looking for the highs, and I believe that’s what works in cinema,” RGV stated.
This perspective highlighted his preference for adrenaline-pumping moments over the emotional arcs that are central to Animal’s narrative.
