Microsoft has hired former Open AI CEO Sam Altman and president Greg Brockman to run a new advanced AI research division. Altman was considering re-entry after OpenAI sacked him. Former Twitch CEO Shear will succeed Mira Murati.

Open AI’s former CEO Sam Altman and president Greg Brockman joined Microsoft on Monday to lead a new advanced AI research team, according to Satya Nadella.

“We are committed to our cooperation with OpenAI and confident in our product roadmap, capacity to innovate with everything we announced at Microsoft Ignite, and customer and partner support. Emmett Shear and OAI’s new leadership team are exciting to meet and work with. We’re thrilled to announce that Sam Altman, Greg Brockman, and colleagues will lead a new advanced AI research team at Microsoft. We’ll move rapidly to give them the resources they need “Nadella wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

The ChatGPT developer appointed former Twitch CEO Emmett Shear as interim CEO after Altman, who was sacked by OpenAI last week, failed to negotiate a re-entry with the board.

OpenAI named former Twitch CEO Emmett Shear acting CEO earlier in the day. CEO Mira Murati, who publicly supported Altman, will be replaced by Shear. Just hours after inviting Altman to meet with OpenAI executives at the company’s San Francisco headquarters on Sunday, Murati was fired.

Twitch’s CEO until March was Shear, a Justin.tv co-founder. His Yale University Bachelor of Science in Computer Science was earned in 2005. Shear and Justin Kan released Kiko Calendar, an Ajax-based calendar tool, in 2005. Due to competition from Google Calendar, they sold the company on eBay.
