The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 final between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) is set to crown a first-time champion since both franchises have been part of the league since its inception in 2008. RCB will be playing in their fourth final, having previously reached the summit clash in 2009, 2011, and 2016, while PBKS will be competing in their second final after 2014.
Despite their long histories in the IPL, the coveted trophy has remained elusive for both teams, making this year’s final a guaranteed end to a prolonged wait for one of them. In the lead-up to this significant match, former Punjab Kings captain Virender Sehwag offered his prediction for the likely winner, delivering his answer with his characteristic humor.
Speaking on Cricbuzz, Sehwag quipped, “I think RCB will win. I have gone back to my old form because I have seen the team I support tend to lose, be it GT in the match against MI or Punjab Kings in the Qualifier 1 against RCB. Today, I supported MI vs PBKS in qualifier 2; they lost their matches.”
When host Gaurav Kapoor followed up by asking whom he was supporting, Sehwag reiterated his prediction with a touch of superstition, stating once again, “RCB”. He further elaborated on his track record of backing teams that end up losing, adding, “This is also the case with the Indian team. When I openly supported them, they went on to lose that match.”
Should RCB indeed emerge victorious in the IPL 2025 final, it would hold particular significance for Virat Kohli. The star Indian batter has dedicated 18 years of his senior cricket career to Royal Challengers Bengaluru, and their first-time skipper Rajat Patidar understands the immense meaning it would carry for the team to finally win the prestigious Indian Premier League title for one of the nation’s esteemed cricketing legends.
