Pakistan’s cricket structure could be in for another round of sweeping changes following their latest failure against India, which all but confirmed their early exit from the 2025 Champions Trophy. The legendary Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar has expressed surprise at the apparent lack of bench strength within the Pakistan men’s team, especially considering the country’s rich history of producing natural talent.
Throughout the tournament, which Pakistan is hosting, they have struggled to compete, suffering a 60-run defeat against New Zealand before a six-wicket loss to India. Sunil Gavaskar remarked that, given their current form, Pakistan would even find it difficult to beat a second-string Indian side. “I think a B team certainly (can give Pakistan a run for their money). C team, I am not too sure. But a B team will be very, very hard to beat for Pakistan in their current form,” he said during a show.
During their clash against India in Dubai, Pakistan batted first and managed only 241 runs before being bowled out in 49.4 overs. India chased the target with ease in 42.3 overs, led by an unbeaten century from Virat Kohli, who scored 100 off 111 balls.
The next day, New Zealand’s victory over Bangladesh sealed Pakistan’s first-round exit from the tournament, adding to the growing concerns about the team’s performance and future direction.
