Rajinikanth’s upcoming action-thriller Vettaiyan is set to release on October 10, and the anticipation is high. Directed by TJ Gnanavel, known for Jai Bhim, the film marks the much-awaited reunion of Rajinikanth with Amitabh Bachchan after 33 years. They last shared screen space in Andha Kanoon and Hum. Vettaiyan also stars prominent South Indian actors such as Fahadh Faasil, Rana Daggubati, Ritika Singh, Manju Warrier, and Dushara Vijayan in key roles.
During Vettaiyan’s audio launch in Chennai, Rajinikanth revealed how his daughter Soundarya introduced him to TJ Gnanavel’s story. While Rajinikanth admired Gnanavel’s previous work in Jai Bhim, he had never met the filmmaker before. After hearing the story, Rajinikanth was intrigued but he put forth one condition for working in the movie, he asked Gnanavel to make some changes so that the movie can be made in a more commercial manner as quite a good amount will be spent on making it.
Gnanavel initially asked for 10 days to rework the story, but came back within two days, assuring Rajinikanth that he could adapt it for a commercial audience. Gnanavel clarified that while the film would not be in the style of directors like Nelson Dilipkumar or Lokesh Kanagaraj, he would still present Rajinikanth in a way that would excite fans. Rajinikanth expressed his satisfaction with this unique approach, stating, “That’s exactly what I wanted.”
Vettaiyan has already received a U/A certification from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), allowing it to be screened with parental guidance for children under 12. Produced by Lyca Productions, the film will be released in multiple languages, including Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada, making it accessible to a wide audience.
