This Australian star opener’s Test career is set to end; would play one last Test against Pakistan

David Warner announced on Saturday that he will stop playing Test cricket. The Australian star opener would also put an end to T20 cricket while he is preparing for the forthcoming WTC final against India.

Warner said if he is able to score runs here and continue to play back in Australia then he owes it to himself, so he can say that he will certainly not take part in the West Indies series.

Warner aspires for this to be his final Test against Pakistan in Sydney. He made it known that he wanted to play one last Test against Pakistan at the SCG, his home field, to cap off his red-ball career.

Warner also said if is able to make the Pakistan series and get through this (the Ashes campaign after the WTC Final), he will surely finish up then.

Australia will play Pakistan in a three-Test series at the close of the year; the last match is scheduled to take place in Sydney on January 3; following that, they will host the West Indies for a complete series.

Warner stated when discussing his T20 career, “You’ve got to score runs. I’ve always indicated that my last game will likely be in the 2024 T20 World Cup.”

Australia and England will play a five-match Ashes series following the WTC championship. The Australian team that will compete in the WTC final and the first two Ashes Test matches includes Warner.

Warner will perform well at the top of the order, according to Australia head coach Andrew McDonald, despite his recent troubles.

In 103 Test matches throughout the course of his career, David Warner has amassed 8158 runs, with a best score of 335. 34 half-centuries and 25 tons have been reported by him thus far. Warner has played 99 matches in his T20I career and amassed 2894 runs, including a century and 24 fifties.
