This Cricketer Gets Last Minute Entry In The Indian World Cup Squad

The Indian selectors have made a last minute change in the Indian World Cup squad as Axar Patel hasn’t recovered from his quadriceps injury which he sustained in a match during the Asia Cup 2023. Axar Patel has been replaced by the veteran Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin who proved himself perfectly ready for the big event by performing well in the recently concluded 3-match ODI series against Australia.

Before getting the call for the 3-match ODI series, Ashwin had played only 2 ODIs for the country in the last six years but he showed in the first 2 matches of the series that he is ready for the big event which is going to start from 5 October 2023. While Ashwin got only 1 wicket in the first ODI against Australia, he showed his class in the second ODI in which he took 3 important wickets.

The International Cricket Council made a media release which read,

“Axar Patel has failed to recover in time for the World Cup after sustaining a left quadriceps strain during India’s Asia Cup Super Four encounter against Bangladesh. The spin-bowling all-rounder missed the final of the Asia Cup as a result. Veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has been named his replacement, who was impressive on his return to ODI cricket in the recently concluded series against Australia where he picked up four wickets in two games.”

R Ashwin has a huge experience of playing 115 ODIs in which he has taken 155 wickets and he has also scored 707 runs.

All the best to the Indian team for the ICC ODI World Cup 2023!
