This Ex-Pak Player Claims Virat Kohli Opening The Innings Is A Big Mistake

The Indian cricket team has won their first league match of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024 which they played against Ireland and now they will face Pakistan in their second league match which will be played tomorrow at New York.

The selectors may have chosen Yashasvi Jaiswal as an opener but the team management is determined to make Virat Kohli open the innings with Rohit Sharma as the former was in superb form in the IPL 2024 while playing as an opener for his team Royal Challengers Bangalore.

By making Virat Kohli open the innings, the team management is able to promote Rishabh Pant at number 3 and it also gives them an option to include an extra all-rounder such as Shivam Dube in the squad.

While there are few Indian former cricketers who are not happy with Virat Kohli opening the innings, the former Pakistani cricketer Kamran Akmal also feels that India is making a big mistake by making Virat Kohli open.

While speaking on his YouTube channel, Kamran Akmal said, “I don’t think the batting order is correct. Virat Kohli can take the pressure at No.3 and finish the match. That is very important for Team India. Yashasvi Jaiswal should open the batting. Kohli should come at 3. If India stick to this batting order (of Kohli) opening, then they may get stuck at some point. Kohli holds one end up and finishes off the game. I think India are making a mistake by opening with Kohli.”

As far as the Pakistani cricket team is concerned, they are currently low on confidence after losing their first league match to debutant USA and it will be interesting to see whether they will manage to bounce back or India will defeat them easily.
