Rohit Sharma-led Indian cricket team confirmed its place in the final of the ongoing Asia Cup 2023 after defeating Pakistan and Sri Lanka in the Super Four clash and now Sri Lanka which is also the defending champion has marched into the finals after defeating Pakistan in virtual semi-final which was played yesterday at R Premadasa Stadium, Colombo.
The Pakistani batters performed pretty well in the rain-affected match as they posted a total of 252/7 in 42 overs, the highest scorer for Pakistan was Mohammad Rizwan (86 runs) and couple of useful knocks were played by Abdullah Shafique (52 runs) and Iftikhar Ahmed (47 runs).
Due to rain, the match was first reduced to 45 overs per innings but later on, it was reduced to 42 overs per innings and Sri Lanka got the target of 252 as per the DLS method. A brilliant batting performance by Sri Lankan batters – Kusal Mendis (91 runs), Sadeera Samarawickrama (48 runs) and Charith Asalanka (49 runs not out) ensured that Sri Lanka reached the finals which will be played on 17th September at R Premadasa Stadium.
