Uttarakhand Cabinet Gives Green Signal, Assembly Bill Due on Feb 6

In a meeting convened at the home of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Sunday evening, the Uttarakhand Cabinet adopted the report on the Uniform Civil Code (UCC). The UCC Bill will be presented by the government on February 6 during the Uttarakhand Assembly session, after the cabinet’s acceptance of the UCC draft report.

The Uniform Civil Code (UCC) draft was discussed and approved in a cabinet meeting on Saturday by the Pushkar Singh Dhami-led Uttarakhand government. This would allow the BJP-ruled state to become the first in the nation to adopt the UCC.

The Chief Minister addressed reporters after the meeting, stating that a number of topics were covered and that “in this session,” they would present UCC and “whatever formalities are being completed.”

This comes after Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami declared that the “long-awaited moment has arrived” after a government-appointed panel led by former Supreme Court judge Ranjana Prakash Desai on Friday delivered a large document to him.

Ajay Mishra, the state’s UCC Committee member secretary, accompanied Justice Ranjana Agnihotri, the head of the Uttarakhand UCC Committee, as she arrived in Dehradun on Friday.

The UCC’s introduction into the state, according to Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, was a pledge made during the election.

This decree is issued in the midst of potential demonstrations against the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) Bill’s introduction in the Assembly, which are anticipated to be organised by a small number of groups.

In the event of the next assembly session, the circle and district in-charges, the chief security officer, and Additional Director General of Police, Crime and Law and Order, AP Anshuman, met via video conference on Thursday, according to Uttarakhand’s Headquarters Director General of Police.
