Venad Express: The train that reversed 1 km to pick up passengers after skipping stop

A train unexpectedly skipped a small station and reversed its course, leaving passengers, rail officials, and onlookers perplexed. Officials will seek an explanation from the locopilots. The Venad Express train experienced a sudden stop, resulting in a delay of eight minutes, but the drivers were able to make up for lost time.

Had Raj and Simran from the iconic Bollywood film Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge waited for the Venad Express in Kerala on Sunday, their story  could have been quite different, potentially leading to an unexpected turn of events.

In a peculiar turn of events reminiscent of a famous scene from a 1995 blockbuster, a train headed towards Shoranur unexpectedly skipped a small station and continued on its path. However, just minutes later, the train reversed its course and traveled nearly 1 km back to the station, leaving passengers, rail officials, and onlookers perplexed.

It remains unclear whether any star-crossed lovers akin to Raj and Simran were present among the commuters waiting at Cheriyanad station in Alappuzha. Nevertheless, the spectacle of the train hurtling past and returning to this rural enclave was nothing short of a cinematic thriller.

Officials will seek an explanation from the locopilots regarding the lapse. At approximately 7:45am, a noteworthy incident occurred as the 16302 Venad Express from Thiruvananthapuram approached Cheriyanad, a station categorized as “D-grade” situated between the larger Mavelikara and Chengannur stations.

Cheriyanad, being a halt station, currently has no signal available. According to sources, it has been reported that signals can only be accessed at block stations of a larger size. It is possible that the locopilots (drivers) made an error. According to a railway official, the discovery was made after the train had traveled a certain distance. According to the user, a train cannot come to an abrupt halt and typically continues to roll for several hundred meters before stopping.

The Venad Express train experienced a sudden stop after traveling a short distance, resulting in a rollback of approximately 700 meters back to the station. According to an official, there was a delay of approximately eight minutes in the schedule, but the drivers were able to make up for lost time later on.

In a recent incident, train coaches bound for Puri got uncoupled in West Bengal. In a recent incident, the coaches of the Howrah-Puri Superfast Express (12837) train were reportedly uncoupled at Nekurseni station in West Bengal, which is located approximately 20km from the Odisha border. This occurred at around 1am on Sunday, according to sources.

According to railway sources, the incident was deemed as “insignificant” as it did not cause any inconvenience to anyone. According to sources, following the train’s return to Cheriyanad, passengers were able to disembark and board the train.

According to a passengers’ association, there were only a limited number of passengers on a recent Sunday. The association expressed a similar sentiment to other sources. Passengers were left confused as the train continued on without making any stops. According to Paul Manvattom, the president of All Kerala Railway Passengers Association, the incident was minor.

According to a rail official, an explanation will be requested from the locopilots regarding the lapse, as per standard procedure.
