Microsoft seeks fast-tracked legal process for $69B Activision Blizzard takeover as FTC blocks deal

As they are looking to meet the deadline of their takeover deal, Activision Blizzard and Microsoft have asked a US judge to speed up the legal processes started by the Federal Trade Commission.

Activision Blizzard and Microsoft are racing against time to meet the deadline of their $69 billion takeover deal. They have asked a US judge to speed up the legal processes started by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to stop the merger. US District Judge Edward Davila had already set up a meeting on June 22 and 23 in San Francisco to hear evidence. He also temporarily stopped the deal from going through until another judge on the same court decides whether or not to give a preliminary injunction.

At the next meeting, the main question will be whether or not to put the deal on hold while an administrative judge looks into the case. But the companies said that if a brief hold is put on the deal, they would have to give up on it because the FTC review is taking so long that waiting is not a good idea.

In a court statement, the companies stressed how important it was, saying that the deal ends on July 18 and that Microsoft would have to pay a $3 billion fee to get out of it. “It is very important to realize that the only decision that matters in these tight time limits is the decision on the preliminary injunction,” the filing said. Reuters said that the FTC wouldn’t say anything about the situation. Microsoft and Activision asked the court to give the evidentiary hearing at least five days, starting on June 22 and going through the week of June 26.

They also suggested a case management meeting on Thursday, stressing that their request for a longer hearing was not meant to drag out the process. The companies said that if the FTC’s preliminary injunction is upheld, it would essentially stop the whole deal because the FTC’s methods are so slow that no serious business deal could wait that long. They used a case from 1986 to back up their point. The FTC’s administrative process meeting, on the other hand, is set to start on August 2.

The FTC is worried that the deal will give Microsoft’s Xbox the only way to play Activision games, which will hurt Nintendo devices and Sony Group Corp’s PlayStation. Even though the takeover was okayed by the European Union in May, it had been stopped by British competition authorities in April.

The Mars rover took two sets of five pictures over 7 1/2 minutes, one set in the morning and one set in the afternoon of April 8, 2023, showing the back of the rover and its three sensors and a nuclear power source. According to NASA, the shots were taken as the rover climbed the foothills of the Gale Crater mountain, which is 3 miles (5 km) high.

NASA, which is part of the US government, shared a beautiful panorama of Mars on Tuesday that shows both the morning and afternoon views.

NASA says that the shots were taken as the rover climbed the foothills of the Gale Crater mountain, which is 3 miles (5 km) high.

NASA said that the Mars rover’s black-and-white guidance cameras took two sets of five separate pictures over 7 1/2 minutes, one set in the morning and one set in the afternoon of April 8, 2023.

The first picture was taken on April 8, 2023, at 9:20 a.m., and the second at 3:40 p.m., local time on Mars.

NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory’s Doug Ellison, organized and analyzed the images.

According to Ellison, “The photographs were shot during the winter, when there is less dust in the air. This intensified the shadows. When there isn’t much dust, Mars’ shadows are sharper and deeper, but when there is a lot of dust, they aren’t as clear.”

The picture shows the back of the rover and shows that it has three sensors and a nuclear power source. The Radiation Assessment Detector (RAD), which looks like a white circle in the lower right corner of the picture, has been helping scientists figure out how to protect the first humans sent to Mars from radiation on the surface of the planet.

Rajinder Gupta dropped out of school in Class 9, but he worked hard and took measured risks to become one of the richest people in Punjab.

People are said to call him “Punjab’s Dhirubhai Ambani.” As of June 2023, Forbes says that he is worth $1.5 billion. In 2022, he quit Trident’s board of directors, saying he had to focus on his family and health. Trident holds expertise in making home linens, paper, and chemicals.

Rajinder Gupta had a hard time when he was young because he came from a low-income family. He quit school when he was 14 years old and in the ninth grade.

He didn’t have access to big opportunities until the 1980s. In his early life, he made clay pipes and lights for Rs 30 a day. In 1985, he started Abhishek Industries, which made fertilizer.  In 1991, he worked with another business to open a spinning mill. This helped him grow his business.

Gupta’s amazing journey began when he was just a simple cotton dealer. Even though he started out with little, he built a business empire worth Rs 17,000 crore. The growth of the Trident company is used as a case study in business schools in Punjab. Annual wealth lists say that Rajinder Gupta is the richest person in Punjab with a net worth of more than Rs 12,000 crore.

Rajinder Gupta is not only the Chairman of the Corporate Advisory Board for Trident Limited, but he is also the Chairman of the Trident Group, a global company with its headquarters in Ludhiana, Punjab. In 2007, the President of India gave him the Padma Shri as a prize for his great work in the business and trade fields.

Rajinder Gupta  was recently named Chairman of the Board of Governors for Punjab Engineering College. He is a member of the FICCI (Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry) Advisory Council for Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Himachal Pradesh. He also serves as a trade, industry, and commerce official on the Punjab Bureau of Investment Promotion Board of Governors. He became head of the Punjab Cricket Association in September 2017 and held that post until February 2023.

Rajinder Gupta has made his company a world leader in making textiles, paper, and chemicals by setting up branches in Punjab and Madhya Pradesh. More than 150 countries buy things from Trident, which makes up two-thirds of its income. Gupta’s Trident Group has Walmart, JCPenney, and Luxury and Linen as users, just like the famous business tycoon who started Reliance. The company is one of the top five towel makers in the world. He quit the group in 2022 and is now the “chairman emeritus” at its offices in Ludhiana.

After five years of marriage, her husband left her and their two children. She is now a single mother. So that she could pay her bills, she started sweeping the streets.

The mayor of the JMC, Kunti Deora Parihar, says, “Asha had a hard time making ends meet when she worked as a janitor. She worked in a town of sweepers, who don’t always put schooling first.

CCI challenges NCLAT’s decision to uphold Google’s fine of Rs 1,338 crore

The CCI has challenged the NCLAT’s decision, which upheld Google’s fine of Rs 1,338 crore. The appeals court threw out the CCI’s order to Google, which said it couldn’t block access to its Play services API or sell stores through Google’s Play Store.

The Competition Commission of India (CCI) has challenged in the Supreme Court (SC) a part of the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal’s (NCLAT) decision. The NCLAT upheld the order under which Google had to pay a fine of Rs 1,338 crore. The tech giant was accused of taking advantage of the fact that it had the most power in the Android ecosystem. But it ignored four of the ten ways that Google was told to change how it does business.

The CCI has directly challenged the NCLAT’s directive, which says that to prove abuse of power under Section 4 of the Competition Act, the competition watchdog must do an “effect analysis.” This study is used to decide if the action in question hurts competition or not.

The appeals court agreed with Google’s claim that Section 4 makes it clear that unfair prices or conditions can’t be used to compete. It also said that the goal of competition law is to stop things that hurt the industry.

Google said that for a company’s actions to be considered offensive, they must hurt competition and an effective study should be done. But the CCI didn’t agree with this point of view.

Google hasn’t said anything yet about what the NCLAT said about it. Google and other parties have filed objections with the SC to make sure that no orders are made without their knowledge.

The CCI told Google that app developers could use third-party billing or payment handling services for app and in-app sales starting in October 2022. The competition panel also said that the tech giant had to pay a fine.

In March, the NCLAT gave Google 30 days to do what the CCI told it to do with the other measures, besides the four that were set aside.

The appeals court threw out the CCI’s order to Google, which said that Google couldn’t block access to its Play services application programming interface (API) in a way that hurts other equipment makers, app developers, and rivals.

It also turned down a CCI rule that would have let makers of app shops sell their stores through Google’s Play Store. The appeals court said that these orders were “unsustainable.”

Generative AI market in HR to cross $1 billion by 2032 says new study

0

A new study says that the Generative I market in human resource (HR) will grow at a CAGR of 15.4% from $413 million in 2022 and cross $1 billion in 2032.

Generative AI is popular in the human resource sector because it can help automate a number of time-consuming and labor-intensive tasks that are involved in hiring and handling a workforce.

The firm’s study said that when it comes to how AI is used in  human resource, marketing and hiring take the lead. When it comes to deployment, the Cloud-based group has 68% of the market. The most important part of the technology section is machine learning. In terms of location, North America is the most important, with 47% of the income. APAC is expected to have the best CAGR of any area.

The growth of the market is caused by several things. Its technology is improving quickly. For example, solutions that help companies hire talent, keep employees engaged, and get the most out of their staff are getting more complicated.

At the same time, as HR tries to improve speed and accuracy, technology is being used more and more. generative AI systems can be used to automate tasks like checking resumes, matching candidates, and setting up interviews.

Human resource offices are also looking for ways to give their workers more unique experiences. Generative AI can help make things like job titles, training materials, and performance reviews that are unique to each person.

AI systems also help companies deal with DEI issues by making it easier to get rid of bias in hiring choices and job descriptions. Lastly, AI is appealing to companies because it can lower training costs and make sure workers follow all the rules.

Visier just put out a creative AI-based digital helper that makes it easy to talk to Visier People. Paycor, meanwhile, launched a tool that uses AI to create job descriptions. This tool is meant to “optimize” talent acquisition by finding suitable people from different backgrounds. Fountain bought Clevy, a company that makes talking AI technologies, to make it easier to hire hourly workers.
