Meet the female law student who also drives a bus: Ann Mary

0

A law student in the southern Indian city of Kochi drives a bus every Sunday to show that women can drive.

Ann Mary’s favourite sound as a youngster was the roar of her father’s Royal Enfield Bullet. She’d dash to the gate as soon as she heard it, ready to climb aboard and join her father on a joyride. As she grew older, she fantasised about riding a bullet herself. So, at the age of 15, her ever-supportive father taught her how to ride a bike. She eventually learnt how to drive a car and became in love with driving in general. This fondness for smaller vehicles would pique her interest in larger ones, such as buses and lorries.

The opportunity came with her neighbour Sarath, who knew how to operate a bus. He taught her all he knew. She began training a few months before her 21st birthday and enrolled in a driving school to obtain a heavy vehicle driver’s licence. Every Sunday, she drives a private bus named ‘Hey Day’ around Kochi.

Ann, a fourth-year student at Ernakulam’s Government Law College, makes time on Sundays to transport passengers on the Kakkanad-Perumpadappu route from 7 a.m. to 6.45 p.m. She also drives the bus back home on days when her High Court internship is coming to an end.

Ann recalls that her first experience driving a bus with passengers was both exciting and worrisome.

The country has a relatively small number of female bus drivers. In India, the metropolitan public transportation system employs just 17.5% women.

According to the survey, this is owing to a conventional macho image of the transportation sector, in addition to difficult working circumstances. There is also the misconception that women cannot “manage” a bus and that if they become drivers, accidents will increase.

Ann also claims that male drivers were first wary of her, questioning why woman was operating a bus with no financial restraints. They have warmed up to her over time, and she likes their companionship.

While driving a bus, she keeps many key things in mind. She must also learn time management because she is required to keep a timesheet while driving the bus. She must arrive at each station on time, while still managing her time wisely in college and at her internship.

Ann claims that Sarath’s driving lessons were quite useful to her. Ann, who wants to be a magistrate, says she wants to earn a JCB licence so she may experiment with other heavy trucks.

Know how HRs should deal with IT industry recruitment challenges in 2023

0

The deficit has become apparent due to the massive changes in the IT environment brought on by the economy’s digital transformation.

Every year, new opportunities emerge, but in the IT business, these potential are constrained by a fresh skills shortage. The deficiency has become obvious as a result of recent substantial changes in the IT environment caused by the economy’s digital transformation. However, the sector has been unable to expand, as seen by persistent hiring patterns in e-commerce, AI, data mining, and cloud technology. This increase resulted in the creation of around 500,000 jobs in India’s IT sector by 2022.

The sector’s recruitment issues are being confronted by this development and widespread hiring at the same time. Staff attrition, difficulty in identifying competent applicants, and a lack of training money are all contributing to the industry’s new talent gap. A lack of appropriate technical resources, along with the quick speed of change, is putting strain on existing IT workers, preventing them from meeting current demands and making it difficult to fully exploit cutting-edge technology.

Recruiting IT specialists poses a number of challenges, some of which are outlined below:

Lack of qualified talent is a major issue in the sector: The job process has fundamentally changed as the technology edge has transferred to developers, engineers, coders, and so on. According to estimates, more than half of IT firms require assistance in discovering qualified employees. To address this challenge, it is necessary to identify and hire the proper competent employees.

Talent availability for dynamic roles: Metaverse, Web 3.0, Industry 4.0, and other technologies have offered the IT business with new profit-generating areas. These new areas have increased demand for IT specialists. Because the IT industry is now predominantly focused on these increasing roles, the other average prospects must still be met due to their non-participation. Roles such as UI/UX designers, no-code developers, Android / iOS app developers, and so on are also growing increasingly prevalent in the industry. To keep up with the increased demand, existing IT professionals must be reskilled.

New workplace culture: To begin, the pandemic-driven remote working trend sees applicants preferring remote and hybrid work situations. Second, IT workers have begun to rely on firm brand images, established social media work culture, and employer image in the market. As a result of the shift in emphasis of IT experts, changing to such variables rather than job advertising is making it tough for firms to hire easily.

Transformation in hiring strategies: HR is introducing contract hire, gig labour, and other employment practises into the industry. To bridge the talent gap, they are appointing and training non-IT professionals for the posts. This is partly due to the fact that candidates have several options and tend to select the position with the highest employee value proposition. As a result, HR professionals want assistance in keeping IT staff.

Absence of technical proficiency: IT workers confront challenges since HR professionals need more technical knowledge. A recruiter is focused with maintaining the top personnel, whereas an IT expert is concerned with expanding their portfolio. Both sides must properly comprehend each other’s needs. During the interview, all technical needs must be explicitly defined. When a recruiter requires greater experience in a job function, new professionals may get demotivated and refrain from applying. This might result in a significant hiring gap.

Every day, HR professionals in the IT industry deal with bleak situations. To overcome the current issues, they must focus on their hiring processes, greater marginal pay, new work locations, and other comparable strategies.

While screening competent applicants from a pool of applications, modern trends must be evaluated, and skills and competency must be prioritised. To develop chances in the IT sector, new projects must be launched.

To do so, recruiters must understand the quickly changing dynamics of the IT sector, and workplace branding and culture must be rethought in order to attract top people and maintain a favourable market image. Reskilling and upskilling must also be prioritised.

Hiring trustworthy and professional recruitment services to handle all aspects of the hiring process may also help to lessen overall workload. They can meet IT staffing demands thanks to their large database of specialists at various levels of seniority.

Aside from that, clarity about job information and a comprehensive examination of candidates’ qualifications are more general strategies that must be followed.

If IT recruiters can find out how to do all of this while staying competitive, they will be able to quickly narrow the talent gap and overcome recruiting obstacles.

‘Pathaan’ has minted a whopping Rs 106 crore (gross), globally, on the opening day of its release.

Shah Rukh Khan, the Bollywood superstar, still has it. King Khan’s allure hasn’t dimmed despite the five-year sabbatical. SRK has knocked it out of the park with ‘Pathaan,’ his triumphant return to the big screen. The highly anticipated film grossed a stunning Rs 106 crore (gross) on its first day.

Yash Raj Films (YRF) resorted to social media to reveal the latest collection reports. With a strong first day, the film achieved the “largest opening day in Hindi cinema history.”

YRF reported ‘Pathaan’ has established many new marks, including the “widest Hindi release of all time in India” and “highest earning opening day for a non-holiday release”.

According to film trade analyst and critic Ramesh Bala, ‘Pathaan’ had the largest opening day for a Hindi film in North America, the United Kingdom and Ireland, Australia, the United Arab Emirates, the Gulf Cooperation Council, Germany, Sweden, Russia, Commonwealth of Independent States, Finland, and Nepal.

Bala further stated that ‘Pathaan’ has reached the Rs 235 crore (gross) mark on its second day at the international box office. The markers have yet to make a formal declaration about it.

‘Pathaan’ opened to a crowded house on Wednesday (January 25) in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu.

The producers were betting on Khan’s star power in India and internationally, as well as the prolonged Republic Day weekend, which paid out.

Back home, the film grossed Rs 55 crore (nett) on its first day, making it the highest-grossing Hindi film on Day 1.

According to cinema trade expert Sumit Kadel, the dubbed versions in Telugu and Tamil brought in an extra Rs 2 crore, bringing the total domestic collection to Rs 57 crore (nett).

According to Taran Adarsh, a cinema trade expert, ‘Pathaan’ exceeded the record set by the Hindi-version of Kannada actor Yash’s ‘KGF: Chapter 2,’ which earned Rs 53.95 crore on Day 1.

The SRK-starrer also outperforms Hrithik Roshan and Tiger Shroff’s ‘War,’ which grossed Rs 51.60 crore on its opening day, making it YRF’s highest-grossing Hindi film.

Furthermore, the spy thriller’s first-day gross collection is the ‘biggest ever’ in Khan’s career, as well as for co-stars John Abraham and Deepika Padukone, director Siddharth Anand, and YRF.

The film, which has attracted boycott demands due to the song “Besharam Rang,” marks SRK’s comeback to the big screen after his 2018 feature “Zero” failed to wow audiences at the box office.

With its record-breaking opening day, industry insiders believe this film will help Bollywood recover from a pandemic hangover and a succession of box-office flops.

According to film trade expert Rohit Jaiswal, the film will touch Rs 400 crore at the box office in its second week, breaking the mark established by ‘KGF 2’. (Hindi).

The film premiered in over 5,000 theatres across the country, including major cities such as Delhi and Mumbai.

The film portrays a spy who returns from exile to prevent terrorist outfit Outfit X from planning a crippling strike on India.

Following Salman Khan’s ‘Ek Tha Tiger’ (2012), ‘Tiger Zinda Hai’ (2017), and ‘War,’ ‘Pathaan’ is the fourth film in producer Aditya Chopra’s grandiose espionage universe (2019).

Salman also appears in ‘Pathaan’ as another spy, Tiger.

PCB to fight with BCCI over hosting rights of Asia Cup 2023

0

Controversy is already going on for the T20 World Cup 2022 regarding the venue of the Asia Cup 2023. Pakistan has to officially host this tournament. BCCI Sachin Jai Shah flatly refused to go to Pakistan for the 2015 World Cup. Rameez Raja was removed and a new panel formed.

The location of the Asia Cup 2023 is already causing controversy for the T20 World Cup 2022. This tournament must be officially hosted by Pakistan. However, prior to the T20 World Cup in Australia, BCCI President Sachin Jai Shah bluntly refused to visit Pakistan. Following that, then-PCB Chief Rameez Raja sparked a new controversy by refusing to travel to India for the World Cup 2023.

The debate heated up from there. Rameez Raja was then dismissed, and a new panel was constituted.

Najam Sethi took over as head of the PCB, and he made some controversial remarks as well. At the same time, the deadline for making a final decision on this competition is approaching.

The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) conference will be place in Bahrain on February 4th. On this day, the Asia Cup 2023 final decision might be made. This meeting will include representatives from both the BCCI and the PCB. The site of this competition is the source of contention. This time around, the ODI Asia Cup will be contested in August-September.

The PCB has the rights to host it, but owing to a political conflict, India will not welcome Pakistan. As a result, a choice on a neutral site can be made during the meeting. The recent release of the ACC schedule by BCCI Secretary and ACC Chief Jai Shah revealed the disagreement between PCB and ACC.

Najam Sethi recently stated that the ACC had accepted the Pakistan Cricket Board’s proposal to host an executive board meeting in Bahrain to discuss this year’s Asia Cup and India’s participation.

In a media interview, he indicated that he was able to persuade the ACC members to conduct a board meeting during his trip to Dubai. He also mentioned that the ACC Board would convene in Bahrain on February 4 to discuss matters relating to the Asia Cup, which is a significant step. Aside from that, there will be an ICC meeting in March.

Cricket is an important sport in India and Pakistan. At the same time, the current report claims that a BCCI official provided this information during the sale of the women’s IPL franchises in Mumbai.

According to the official, the Asia Cup in Bahrain will be decided on February 4. It will now be interesting to watch what arrangement is struck between the cricket bodies of India and Pakistan. It will also be fascinating to observe where this competition takes place.

Sri Lanka hosted the Asia Cup 2022 earlier this year.
