Ben Stokes Responds To Michael Vaughan’s Criticism For Choosing Bowling First At Headingley

0

England men’s cricket team captain Ben Stokes ultimately had the final say, triumphing over the significant criticism he received from Michael Vaughan regarding his choice to bowl first in the opening Test against India. Despite many experts predicting a favorable batting surface, Stokes, after winning the toss, opted to field. Vaughan, in particular, was vocal in his disapproval following India’s strong start.

However, Stokes’ decision was definitively vindicated when England orchestrated a remarkable chase of 371 runs, propelled by a sensational century from Ben Duckett. After securing the victory, Stokes delivered the perfect retort to his detractors.

“It’s a good job Test cricket is played over five days. Imagine thinking that way after day one, before we’ve even had chance to bat on a wicket,” Stokes was quoted as saying on BBC’s Test Match Special.

He further elaborated on his reasoning, stating, “You never know what a wicket is going to play like half an hour before any cricket has been on it. It looked like there was a lot of top moisture on it, it felt like there was. You do first what you think will give you the best chance of winning the game.” Stokes also highlighted the historical behavior of the Headingley pitch, adding, “Headingley does generally quite a lot early on. I thought it was a great chance to potentially nick three or four in the first hour. The opposition are allowed to play well.”

Earlier, Vaughan had expressed his displeasure with England’s decision, admitting he was “staggered” by the tactic against India. “I’m a bit of an old-school traditionalist here at Leeds that, when the sun shines, it’s quite an easy decision, particularly with the build-up to the Test match and it being so dry and so nice,” Michael Vaughan had said on the BBC’s Test Match Special. He concluded his criticism by remarking, “I was staggered… when I heard he was going to bowl first. I thought, traditions have gone out the window.”

Well he responded in a great manner!

“Double Standards?” Punjabi Singer Jasbir Jassi Supports Diljit Dosanjh Over Sardar Ji 3 Row

Punjabi singer Jasbir Jassi has come forward in support of Diljit Dosanjh, who is currently facing criticism over the casting of Pakistani actress Hania Aamir in his upcoming film, Sardaar Ji 3. In a recent interview, Jassi acknowledged public sentiment but also highlighted what he described as “double standards”.

He asserted that numerous Indian songs are either “stolen” or feature vocals by foreign artists. Jassi further contended that if the government intends to impose a comprehensive ban on Pakistani artists, then their music should be entirely removed from all platforms within India.

Jasbir Jassi shared his perspective with a news channel, stating, “I’m seeing how Diljit Dosanjh and his film are facing protests on social media because that film also stars a Pakistani artiste. I respect people’s sentiments that we should love our country and that we should stand by our country. But, why these double standards? If you don’t want any Pakistani artists singing, acting or working in any Indian film, you want to ban them. But 80% of the songs of our industry have been stolen, be it their tunes or words or the entire songs. There are so many songs in our films that have been sung by the artists of that country. I don’t want to take names because the list is too long. So, why these double standards?”

The singer went on to elaborate on his point, arguing, “Either get rid of all those songs from YouTube, Spotify and other digital platforms. But not like this, you take just one artist and start protesting against them. It’s like someone came to your house with something to eat and then you start calling them the enemy but you keep eating the things or sweets they brought along with them. If you want to ban (Pakistani artists), ban them completely. Get all that content available in the world lifted… why are you banning films of one artist at a time?”

What do you have to say now?

R Ashwin Advises Siraj To Learn From Morne Morkel After Dismal Performance In Headlingey Test

0

India’s recent Test defeat to England at Headingley, where they failed to defend a target of 371 runs in the fourth innings, has put a spotlight on the team’s frontline pacers. With the exception of Jasprit Bumrah, the fast bowlers have faced considerable criticism for their inability to take wickets, create pressure, or contain the flow of runs, ultimately contributing to India being “bazballed” into losing the series ope

The statistics paint a clear picture of the struggles. Mohammed Siraj bowled 41 overs across both innings, claiming two wickets while conceding a hefty 173 runs at an economy rate of 4.2 runs per over. Prasidh Krishna, though picking up five wickets in 35 overs, was expensive, leaking 220 runs at an economy of 6.2. In stark contrast, Jasprit Bumrah delivered 43.4 overs, secured five wickets, and maintained an impressive economy rate of just 3.2. This significant difference in performance is a cause for concern.

Former India cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin believes that the lack of support from his fellow pacers is unduly increasing Bumrah’s workload. Ashwin specifically suggested that Siraj needs to step up and control the run rate from his end, even if it means not taking a flurry of wickets.

Ashwin elaborated on his YouTube channel, saying, “Bumrah is bowling extraordinarily. Prasidh, when he gets it right, bowls unbelievably well. Jadeja will perform his role. My only question is to Siraj: ‘Can you just dry up the runs? You don’t have to pick wickets, but can you not give away 4-5 runs in every over?’” He further explained the implications of leaking runs, adding, “If runs are being leaked, then you have to bring Bumrah back into the attack. How many dams will Bumrah be able to construct? Also, he gets tired, and his spells are pushed and by then, partnerships are forged. Or you’d have to go with Jadeja, who has to step in to stem the flow of runs.”

Ashwin drew a parallel to the role played by current India bowling coach Morne Morkel during his playing days for South Africa. Morkel’s disciplined bowling helped maintain pressure and allowed strike bowlers like Dale Steyn and Vernon Philander to thrive.

Emphasizing Siraj’s crucial role, Ashwin stated, “Prasidh is playing for the first time (in England) and is inexperienced. Siraj has to play the bankable role. Remember how Morne Morkel used to bowl? He used to give 43 runs in 20 overs and take 2 wickets. In Bazball era, you might go for 2/58. That is the role Siraj has to play and if he is effective in it, it would make a huge difference.”

Will Siraj listen to Ashwin?

Mika Singh Demands Apology From Diljit Dosanjh & Asked To Cut Hania Aamir Scenes From Movie

In the midst of a brewing controversy surrounding the casting of Pakistani actress Hania Aamir in his upcoming film Sardaar Ji 3, singer Mika Singh has publicly called upon Diljit Dosanjh to offer an apology. Mika recently expressed his sentiments on Instagram stories, indicating a willingness to forgive Dosanjh should he apologize and remove any “objectionable” scenes from the movie.

Mika Singh conveyed his thoughts directly, stating, “Guys, I understand we all make mistakes in life. But when we do, there’s one simple word that holds power: Sorry. If Diljit made a mistake, we are all willing to forgive. But he must apologise and remove all the objectionable scenes from the movie. That’s it. No hate. Just respect. Desh pehle (Nation first).”

This plea for an apology follows a prior strong condemnation from Mika Singh, who had previously criticized Diljit for collaborating with a Pakistani artist. In an earlier note, Mika Singh had labeled Diljit Dosanjh a “fake singer” and sharply rebuked his actions. He wrote, “Guys, as we all know, the relationship between India and Pakistan isn’t going well right now. Yet some people continue to act irresponsibly. Before releasing any content that involves artists from across the border, they should think twice — especially when our nation’s dignity is involved. There was a film featuring Fawad Khan and Vaani Kapoor that many of us opposed, and yet, some still don’t seem to get the message. What’s more shocking is that a fake singer, after doing 10 shows in India with thousands of fans buying tickets, has now disappeared — leaving fans betrayed and helpless.”

Shubman Gill Joins Dilip Vengsarkar & Virat Kohli In An Unwanted List After Headingley Defeat

0

Shubman Gill’s inaugural Test as India’s captain concluded in a heartbreaking five-wicket defeat against England in Leeds. The 25-year-old right-handed batter, making his Test captaincy debut on June 20, scored a magnificent 147 runs in the first innings.

However, even this impressive knock couldn’t prevent India from succumbing to England’s chase of 371 runs in the fourth innings. Thanks to Ben Duckett’s commanding 149-run performance, the hosts successfully achieved their target with five wickets in hand after 82 overs.

This loss in the series opener places Gill in an unwanted historical club, as he joins Dilip Vengsarkar and Virat Kohli as only the third Indian captain to score a century in his debut Test and still face defeat. Vengsarkar, in his Test captaincy debut against the West Indies in November 1987 at Arun Jaitley Stadium, scored 102 in the second innings, but his century was ultimately in vain as India lost by five wickets.

Similarly, Virat Kohli’s Test captaincy debut against Australia at Adelaide Oval in December 2014 saw him score centuries in both innings (115 and 141), yet India still suffered a 48-run defeat.

Adding to the historical significance of this loss, four Indian batters—Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Rishabh Pant, and KL Rahul—collectively scored five individual centuries in the Leeds Test. Despite this extraordinary batting display, India was unable to secure a victory.

Hard Luck!
