According to reports, WhatsApp is working on a new feature for its Android app that will further encrypt communications. A feature tracker claims that users may be able to prevent the recipient’s gallery from automatically saving the media they share with others through the Advanced Chat Privacy feature of the Meta-owned instant messaging platform. Additionally, it is rumoured to provide privacy-focused limitations, including preventing the export of complete conversation history and other possible enhancements.

The Advanced Chat Privacy Feature of WhatsApp for Android

Meta Platforms’ instant messaging client is developing the Advanced Chat Privacy feature, which will be available in a future edition of the app, according to WhatsApp feature tracker WABetaInfo. It was observed in the Android app version 2.25.10.4 of WhatsApp Beta. According to reports, the function is optional and may be turned on or off by going to the app’s settings. The recipient who gets image or video files during a conversation cannot save them automatically to their device’s gallery once it has been enabled for the sender.

According to screenshots supplied by the feature tracker, a pop-up that reads “Can’t auto-save media ” would appear if the recipient attempted to save the material.

“You have activated advanced chat privacy, which stops media from automatically saving to your device’s gallery.”

Furthermore, according to WABetaInfo, WhatsApp may also provide further privacy-focused limitations. WhatsApp may prohibit the export of conversation history, including those containing messages from users who have enabled the Advanced Conversation Privacy feature. It would also prevent users from interacting with WhatsApp’s artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot, Meta AI, while in the same discussion.

Notably, WhatsApp offers a similar feature when vanishing messages are enabled, but this in-development feature might also add the same degree of privacy to regular conversations.

According to WABetaInfo, this new feature is still being developed and inaccessible to beta testers who have signed up through the Google Play Beta program. It should be mentioned, though, that not all of the new features the instant messaging platform may develop for different platforms will be made available to the general public.
