Here’s Why DC Co-Owner Asked BCCI To Change Venue Of DC-MI Clash Outside Mumbai

As weather forecasts raise alarms over potential heavy rains in Mumbai, Delhi Capitals co-owner Parth Jindal has reached out to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), requesting a change of venue for their upcoming IPL 2025 clash against Mumbai Indians. The high-profile match is scheduled for Wednesday night in Mumbai, but with severe rain predicted, Jindal fears a washout could compromise the integrity of the contest.

Jindal’s appeal is grounded in the BCCI’s recent decision to shift the match between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Lucknow Super Giants out of Bengaluru due to similar weather-related concerns. That fixture will now take place in Lucknow.

“The forecast in Mumbai is for heavy rains and there is a strong likelihood that the game will be washed out,” ESPNcricinfo quoted Jindal’s email to the BCCI. “Just as the game between RCB vs SRH has been moved out of Bengaluru in the quest for consistency and in the interest of the league it is my request that tomorrow’s game also be moved to a different location as we have known for the better part of 6 days that the forecast for 21st in Mumbai is for heavy showers.”

Supporting Jindal’s concern, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Mumbai, forecasting continuous rainfall over the next four days. On Tuesday evening, just as both teams practiced at the Wankhede Stadium, the Delhi Capitals’ session was disrupted around 8 PM IST due to a sudden spell of rain—further underscoring the looming threat to the fixture.

With playoff stakes hanging in the balance, all eyes are now on the BCCI’s response to the request, as both teams and fans await clarity on whether the match will go ahead as planned or be relocated in the interest of fairness and gameplay continuity.
