X Marks the Spot: Twitter Gets a New Identity Courtesy of Elon Musk

A new Twitter logo was presented by Elon Musk on Monday in an effort to rebrand the microblogging service. A few hours after the formal announcement, the company’s new logo—a white X on a black background—began to appear on the social media network’s web version.

The alteration was also confirmed by Twitter’s CEO, Linda Yaccarino, who tweeted the image and the message, “X mark is here! Let’s proceed. She also shared a photo of the logo that was projected onto the business’s San Francisco offices.

Elon Musk, the billionaire owner of Twitter, said in a series of tweets on Sunday that he would be rebranding the social media platform as X and replacing the site’s recognisable Blue Bird logo with a new X logo.

“And soon we shall bid adieu to the Twitter brand and, gradually, all the birds,” Musk wrote in a tweet.

The “X” logo is an element of a bigger initiative to transform the microblogging platform into a “everything app” in the lines of China’s WeChat, a messaging service that enables users to do everything from make purchases to arrange travel arrangements. Musk allegedly told Twitter staff last year that he wants to transforms Twitter into WeChat. Outside of China, there isn’t a WeChat equivalent, he claimed. “You essentially reside in China on WeChat. We’ll be really successful if we can do that on Twitter.

On Sunday, X’s CEO Linda Yaccarino laid out her company’s goals. She claimed in a tweet that the company would be AI-powered and “centred in audio, video, messaging, payments/banking.”

Since Musk paid $44 billion in October to acquire the microblogging service, Twitter has come under increasing pressure. The corporation has implemented modifications to its policies that have angered users and advertisers, including staff reductions, cost cuts, and labour reductions.

The recent debut of Threads, a competitor of Twitter’s for Meta, has increased the pressure on the social networking network. Threads has gained millions of users since its debut. With the claim that Meta misappropriated its trade secrets when developing its messaging software, Twitter has threatened to sue the company.
