You can get smooth, strong nails by buffing them at home; here’s how

Regular nail buffing should be part of your regimen to keep your nails in good health, shape, and shine. This article defines nail buffing and walks you through the steps to perform it yourself at home.

You’ve probably heard of nail clipping, but we’re sure you’ve wondered what nail buffing is. It files your nails using a buffer board, ensuring that they are healthy, robust, and glossy for a long time. We sometimes live with chipped or broken nails, thinking that they would grow out properly on their own.

But doing so will only make your nails worse. So, grab a nice buffer board and go to work right away!

Nail buffing is the process of polishing or rubbing your nails using a fine-grit buffer board (nail buffer). This gives your nails a more uniform and polished appearance.

How Do You Buff Your Nails At Home?

Make sure your nails are dry and clean; moist nails can easily break or chip. To remove any remaining nail paint, use a nail polish remover. Cut your nails to the length you want.  You may shape your nails anyway you like – round, square, or whatever suits you.

Obtain a nail buffer, which might be an emery board or a buffing board with varying textures on the sides. Buff your nails lightly using the roughest side of the buffer, moving the buffer from side to side.  First, try to smooth down the roughness on your nails. Wipe away the extracts with a gentle cotton cloth.

Take the less abrasive texture and repeat the steps in a moderate, side-to-side motion. Buff your nails using the smoothest section of the buffer until they seem glossy, as if you’ve applied a clear finish. With the cotton cloth, clean your nails.

A soft cotton flannel cloth mixed with a hand lotion can be used as a natural and gentle substitute for nail buffers.

How Often Should You Buff Your Nails? You should buff your nails around once a month, but if your nails aren’t tough, or if you frequently use coloured nail lacquer and don’t really need that additional shine on your nails, you may go longer between buffings.

Use hand creams on a regular basis to keep your nails shining after buffing, but avoid strong soaps or chemicals for a day or two.

Is Nail Buffing Good for Hair Growth?

There is no scientific evidence that nail buffing promotes hair growth. However, it has been established that touching your left and right hand’s nails together might result in hair development.

A Few Points to Consider When Nail Buffing

Rubbing your thumbs will cause face hair to grow faster, so don’t do it. Rubbing your nails during pregnancy might induce uterine contractions and high blood pressure. Avoid during surgical procedures. Avoid if you have a skin illness. If your nails are fragile, avoid using it.

Avoid if you have hypertension or have had it in the past, since this might lead to a rise in blood pressure.

Do not overuse it, since it might cause nail damage. Do this for 5-10 minutes twice a day for best benefits, but no more.

If you’ve ever had a nail injury, you know how painful they can be. However, just because they are dead cells does not mean they can be ignored.
