94-YO Najafgarh granny wins gold at World Masters Athletic Championship

A 94-year-old woman from Najafgarh  has created history at the WMAC – World Masters Athletic Championship in Tampere, Finland. Bhagwani Devi Dagar won gold in a 100-meter sprint at the competition .

Age is not a barrier. You have the capacity to uplift and fulfill your aspirations whether you are 16 or 94 years old provided you have the courage and determination. Bhagwani Devi Dagar, 94, is a prime example. She made history by winning gold in the 100-meter sprint at the WMAC – World Masters Athletic Championship in Tampere, Finland.

This is the remarkable story of 94-year-old Bhgawani Devi, who won a gold medal and two bronze medals in an international sports tournament.

Bhaggwani Devi, an Indian athlete aged 94, won a gold medal and two bronze medals in the World Masters Athletic Championship in Tampere, Finland. She got this award by completing a 100m sprint in 24.74 seconds.

Bhagwani Devi also secured a bronze medal in the discus throw and another bronze medal in the shot-put event. Bhagwani Devi’s accomplishments were lauded all around the world. She is from Haryana and has got numerous congratulations from throughout the country. Her determination has inspired young people to pursue their dreams.

Tampere hosted the World Masters Athletic Championship from June 29 to July 10. It is a world championship sporting event for competitors aged 25 and over. It is a high-level event for athletes, specifically for tracking and fielding. For the tournament, participants are grouped into five-year age groups.

Bhagwani Devi qualified for the World Masters Athletic Championships by earning three gold medals at the National Masters Athletics Championships. It was formerly held in Chennai, India.

Before winning in Chennai, Bhagwani Devi won three gold medals in the Delhi State Athletic Championships in the 100m dash, javelin throw, and shot-put.

Many Indian athletes have demonstrated that age is only a number and that historic exploits and world records can be achieved in any sport.  The Haryana native has made India proud by making history at the age of 94 by winning a gold medal and two bronze medals in the World Masters Athletics Championship.
