While Josh, the 2000 film featuring Shah Rukh Khan and Aishwarya Rai as siblings, might not have been a box office sensation, it has undeniably cultivated a dedicated fan following thanks to its memorable cast, engaging story, catchy songs, and strong performances.
Directed by Mansoor Khan, the film was originally conceived with both Shah Rukh Khan and his cousin, Aamir Khan, in mind for lead roles. Surprisingly, the Sitaare Zameen Par actor not only turned down the project but confessed to “hating” it after his initial viewing years ago.
Mansoor Khan recently shed light on Aamir’s strong reaction, telling Screen, “He [Aamir Khan] saw it at that time and said he hated it.” Mansoor admitted, “So I said, okay, fine. I was pretty disillusioned after that too. I didn’t watch it again for 15, maybe 17 years. I finally saw it about eight years ago, and honestly, I feel it’s not a bad film. I told Aamir, ‘You should see it now’. I said, ‘See, back then, the wounds were still fresh’.”
Interestingly, the role of Max, which ultimately went to Shah Rukh Khan, was initially offered to both cousins. Both Shah Rukh and Aamir had expressed interest in portraying the character, making Aamir’s later strong disapproval of the film all the more surprising.
