National Vaccination Day, also known as Immunization Day or Polio Ravivar, is observed on March 16th each year in India. The holiday is celebrated to support vaccination efforts and increase awareness about the value of vaccinations in the prevention of infectious illnesses.
In 1995, India celebrated the inaugural National Vaccination Day in order to eradicate polio from the country. It has now become a major event on India’s public health calendar.
On this day, the Indian government and many organisations around the country hold vaccination efforts to immunise children and adults against various illnesses. The emphasis is on getting vaccinations to people who may have skipped their immunizations.

In 2014, the Indian government announced Mission Indradhanush to guarantee comprehensive immunisation with all available vaccinations for children under the age of two and pregnant women. India is working to eradicate measles and rubella, with a goal date of 2023 for covering children and pregnant women. Measles kills about a lakh children each year, while Rubella causes birth abnormalities. Vaccination can protect against both.
Because of the ongoing COVID-19 epidemic, National Vaccination Day has taken on even more significance in recent years. To safeguard the people from the virus and limit illness spread, the Indian government has promoted immunization initiatives.
