The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has reportedly communicated to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) that the Indian men’s cricket team will not travel to Pakistan for the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy. Instead, the BCCI has proposed that India’s matches be held at a neutral venue, with Dubai emerging as the preferred location.
According to a leading publication, a source confirmed the BCCI’s stance: “Yes, the BCCI has conveyed their concerns regarding Champions Trophy matches in Pakistan. They want to play matches at a neutral venue and Dubai is the strong candidate to host the fixtures involving the Men in Blue.” This development is rooted in the diplomatic tensions between India and Pakistan, which have historically complicated cricketing relations between the two countries.
Ever since Pakistan was awarded hosting rights for the 2025 Champions Trophy, questions have been raised over India’s participation. This concern mirrors last year’s Asia Cup, which Pakistan hosted using a hybrid model after India declined to play on Pakistani soil. India’s matches were instead held in Sri Lanka.
Dubai has consistently been a favorable location for high-profile cricket tournaments, and its logistical infrastructure, including accommodation and facilities, positions it well to host India’s Champions Trophy matches. The city is also home to the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) headquarters, offering an added layer of convenience and oversight.
While the BCCI has yet to issue a public statement on India’s participation, further details, including the schedule for the Champions Trophy, are expected to be announced by November 11. The cricketing community awaits confirmation as tensions and diplomatic challenges continue to influence major sporting decisions.
