Congress set to appoint new Karnataka CM & deputy

The Bengaluru Congress Legislative Party meeting will nominate Siddaramaiah as Chief Minister and DK Shivakumar as his deputy. As Mr. Shivakumar and Mr. Siddaramaiah refused to go second, the power sharing arrangement depends on the general election.

According to sources, after a tough four-day negotiation process, the Congress is set to appoint Siddaramaiah as the Chief Minister and DK Shivakumar as his deputy during the Congress Legislative Party meeting in Bengaluru later this evening. On Saturday, they are scheduled to take an oath.

According to sources, it has been reported that Siddaramaiah is set to be elected as the Congress Legislative Party leader, while discussions regarding cabinet formation are nearing completion. It is believed that Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge worked tirelessly throughout the night to come up with a viable solution.

According to sources familiar with the matter, Mr. Shivakumar has reportedly agreed to take on the role of Number 2, after an intervention by former Congress president Sonia Gandhi. According to sources, the veteran leader has reportedly agreed to make a sacrifice in the interest of the party.

Congress MP DK Suresh expressed his discontent to the media, stating that they are “not happy”. The statement was made in reference to his brother, Mr. Shivakumar. The individual’s sibling aspired to become the Chief Minister. According to the source, he expressed dissatisfaction with the decision.

This morning, Congress leaders Mr. Siddaramaiah and Mr. Shivakumar held a meeting with the party’s general secretary, KC Venugopal. The highly anticipated meeting between the two leaders marked their first encounter since the power struggle for the top position commenced. Following their meeting, the two leaders proceeded to meet with Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge.

During a meeting held in Delhi on Wednesday, Mr. Kharge and Rahul Gandhi extended two offers to Mr. Shivakumar. According to sources, the highly anticipated meeting ended without a clear resolution as the leading candidate for the top post declined both options presented. Later in the evening, another meeting took place.

According to sources, Mr. Shivakumar has been offered the position of the state’s sole Deputy Chief Minister in addition to his current role as the head of the state party unit. In addition, he was extended an offer to select six ministries of his preference.

Option 2 was also on the table, which involved power sharing between Mr. Shivakumar and Mr. Siddaramaiah. According to sources, it has been reported that Mr. Siddaramaiah was slated to hold the top post for a period of two years, after which he would have been succeeded by Mr. Shivakumar for a duration of three years. According to sources, both Mr. Shivakumar and Mr. Siddaramaiah have reportedly declined to go second.

The status of rotational Chief Ministership remains unclear as a final decision has yet to be reached. According to sources, the fate of the power sharing arrangement now rests on the upcoming general election in Karnataka and the performance of the Congress party in the state.

The Congress party may face significant consequences in the upcoming general election if a mutually agreeable solution cannot be reached. Mr. Shivakumar enjoys a significant following among the politically crucial Vokkaligas in the state, while Mr. Siddaramaiah has the backing of the AHINDA platform. This is an age-old social coalition of minorities, Other Backward Classes, and Dalits, which had voted overwhelmingly for the Congress party.

According to Mr. Shivakumar, rebellion has been ruled out. The individual expressed their willingness to take on responsibility if the party so desires. The household is reported to be united. The speaker expressed a desire to avoid causing division among those present. Regardless of personal opinions, the individual in question asserts that they are a responsible individual. He has made it clear that he will not engage in backstabbing or blackmailing.
