Ryan ten Doeschate, assistant coach of the Indian men’s cricket team, has provided a significant update on captain Rohit Sharma’s fitness and his availability for India’s final Group A match against New Zealand. The highly anticipated clash, set to take place in Dubai on Sunday (March 2), will determine the table toppers of Group A in the Champions Trophy 2025.

Rohit sustained a hamstring injury during the India-Pakistan encounter in Dubai on February 23, raising concerns about his participation in the upcoming match. However, Ten Doeschate has assured that the Indian captain is in good condition. Addressing the media in Dubai on Friday, he stated, “He’s all right. You can see he’s batting a little bit further than earlier. It’s an injury he’s had before, so he knows how to manage it really well.”

Speculation had been rife that Rohit Sharma might miss the match against New Zealand due to the injury, with reports suggesting that vice-captain Shubman Gill could step in to lead the side if required. However, Ten Doeschate’s comments indicate that the veteran batter is managing his fitness well.

KL Rahul, another key player in the Indian squad, also addressed the media on Friday, dismissing any major injury concerns within the team. When asked about Rohit’s condition, Rahul stated, “Fitness-wise, there are no concerns about anyone missing a game as far as I know.”

With both Ten Doeschate and Rahul providing reassurance regarding Rohit’s fitness, the Indian camp appears confident ahead of their crucial showdown against New Zealand.
