IAS officer Akshita Gupta shares key tips to ace UPSC CSE Mains

IAS officer Akshita Gupta, a doctor by profession, passed the UPSC CSE on her first try. She provides some essential mains revision techniques that helped her ace the test.

Akshita Gupta has no prior experience of the civil services test in 2018. Nearly three years later, Akshita passed the Union Public Service Commission Civil Services Exam (UPSC CSE), widely regarded as one of the most difficult exams in the country, on her first attempt! She finished with an All India Rank of 69.

Akshita took the UPSC CSE test in 2020, with medical science as an optional subject.

She was an MBBS student at Government Medical College & Hospital in Chandigarh, and she was from Panchkula, Haryana.

Akshita, a doctor by profession, is now undergoing training as an assistant commissioner in Patiala. The IAS official offers some advice based on her own experience.

Memory loss is caused by the revision gap. Because the curriculum is extensive, it is important to review topics often in order to avoid being overwhelmed.

Akshita recommends writing down significant data about each topic in a clean thin register when studying for the mains. This allows you to revise a day before the exam and remember information on practically every topic.

According to Akshita, one error that applicants do is that they begin preparing for the test while still working and try the exam the next year. She advises studying the subject thoroughly before taking the exam, even if it takes two to three years.

She claims that even individuals with full-time jobs may pass UPSC with four to five hours of practise every day.

Although Akshita passed the exam on her first try, the trip was not without challenges.

During a 15-minute break on a 14-hour shift at the hospital, the IAS officer used to study. Her priority was to prepare for and review issues on which she fared poorly. She prepared courses that required more work, like as surgery and anatomy, for her optional test in the mains.
