In a decisive countermeasure following last month’s Pahalgam terror attack that claimed the lives of 26 civilians, the Indian armed forces launched targeted missile strikes late Tuesday night under the banner of Operation Sindoor.
The operation aimed at dismantling terror infrastructure spread across Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK), with media reports indicating that as many as nine camps were hit. Among the prominent targets were the Jaish-e-Mohammad stronghold in Bahawalpur and the Lashkar-e-Taiba base in Muridke—both known hubs of militant activity.
The military action came two weeks after the brutal attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam, which triggered national outrage and demands for a strong response. The Indian defence ministry confirmed the strikes in an official statement released at 1:44 am, detailing the intent and scope of the operation.
Indian cricket fraternity reacted after the Operation Sindoor strike:
“A little while ago, the Indian armed forces launched ‘Operation Sindoor’ hitting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir from where terrorist attacks against India have been planned and directed,” the statement read.
Underscoring the nature of the response, the ministry clarified that the strikes were “focused, measured and non-escalatory,” deliberately avoiding any Pakistani military facilities. The precision operation was designed to deliver a clear message without inviting further military escalation, while asserting India’s zero-tolerance stance on terrorism emanating from across the border.
