IPL 2023: Fans applaud Atharva Taide for retiring out to bring in Jitesh Sharma

In recent cricket news, a potential tactical move by LSG skipper Krunal Pandya to get retired hurt has gone viral on social media. However, on Wednesday, Punjab Kings’ Atharva Taide made a similar move and was applauded by his fans.

In a crucial match against the Delhi Capitals at the HPCA Stadium, Atharva Taide was retired out, allowing for a potentially more dynamic batter to take the crease in pursuit of a daunting 214-run target.

In a stunning display of batting prowess, Taide managed to score an impressive 55 runs off just 42 balls. However, the decision was made to retire him out in order to bring in the in-form Jitesh Sharma to the crease.

Krunal Pandya’s exit from the field due to injury was recorded as retired hurt, while Taide’s departure was also officially recorded as retired hurt, making him the second cricketer in IPL history to be retired out.

Last year, it was Rajasthan Royals’ Ravichandran Ashwin who became the first player to execute that maneuver.

Unfortunately for PBKS, Taide’s decision did not work out in their favor, as Sharma was swiftly dismissed without scoring a run on only his third ball. Despite Liam Livingstone’s impressive score of 94, the Punjab team ultimately suffered a defeat by 15 runs. Retired out refers to a cricket term used when a batsman is declared out due to retiring from the game voluntarily.

In cricket, a player who voluntarily retires their innings without seeking the umpire’s permission and is unable to resume their innings thereafter is considered retired out.
