Neeraj Chopra meets expectations, wins gold medal in Tokyo Olympics 2020

As all eyes were on him during the men’s javelin throw at Olympic Games, India’s Neeraj Chopra has fulfilled the expectations of his countless fans across the globe.

Chopra emerged as the winner of gold medal during the Javelin throw final at Tokyo Olympics 2020.

India had high hopes high for a medal from Chopra as he competed in the final.

Chopra had entered the finals with an awesome throw of 86.65m in his opening attempt that placed him on top of the qualification round on Wednesday.

He has now become the first Indian athlete to ever win a gold medal.

Chopra set a new personal best of 87.58m in the finals (in the second of six attempts).

In his very first attempt today, he was at of the list with throw of 87.03m, followed by Weber Julian (85.30) of Germany, VadlejchJakub (83.98) of Czech Republic, Vetter Johannes (82.52m) of Germany and Katkavets Aliaksei (82.49) of Belarus.

This is now India’s best-ever medal haul at the Olympics, going past the six it won at the London Games in 2012. P.V. Sindhu (badminton), Lovlina Borgohain (boxing), the men’s hockey team and Bajrang Punia (wrestling) won bronze medals, Mirabai Chanu (weightlifting) and Ravi Kumar Dahiya (wrestling) won silver medals. This is also India’s second-ever individual Olympic gold medal. Abhinav Bindra bagged the country’s first individual gold at the Beijing Games in 2008.
