The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is dissatisfied with Sri Lanka Cricket’s bid to host the Asia Cup 2023, and has rejected to play the bilateral ODI series in Sri Lanka.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is not pleased with Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC)’s latest bid to host the whole Asia Cup 2023. The participating sides have yet to agree on Pakistan’s proposed ‘hybrid format’ for hosting the event, prompting Sri Lanka Cricket to propose hosting the full competition.
The 50-over Asia Cup 2023 was given to Pakistan, however the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) declined to play any matches in its neighboring nation owing to security concerns. Jay Shah, the BCCI secretary and head of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), has been insistent on holding the event in a neutral location and is seeking backing from other nations.
The PCB’s Najam Sethi proposed a hybrid concept in which India would play its matches in the UAE or Sri Lanka, while Pakistan would host the remaining games. However, the teams have yet to agree on Sethi’s strategy, since PCB has failed to persuade its partners to take on BCCI and ACC. The PCB is dissatisfied with Sri Lanka’s influence and has rejected to play the bilateral ODI series in the island nation in July.
Pakistan is due to play two Tests in Sri Lanka during the upcoming WTC season. Sri Lanka Cricket has also requested that Pakistan play a few ODIs as part of their preparations for the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 in India. However, after first expressing interest, Pakistan has declined SLC’s invitation to convey their dissatisfaction.
