Cheteshwar Pujara, one of India’s most accomplished Test batters, has expressed that his exclusion from the national Test team, despite crossing the landmark of 100 matches, serves only as motivation to work harder. The experienced right-hander continues to push forward in domestic cricket, staying prepared and hopeful for a return to the Indian side.
Since his debut 15 years ago against Australia, only Virat Kohli surpasses him in both Test runs and hundreds among Indian players who made their debut post-Pujara’s entry into international cricket. This highlights the consistency and value he brought to India’s middle order for over a decade.
“When one has been successful at the highest level and played more than 100 Tests and is still not a part of the team, you carry on the hard work that has been the reason behind getting the success,” Pujara said while speaking in an interview.
Reflecting on his continued dedication, he added, “Not getting the opportunity is a big disappointment, but I keep myself ready and motivated because of my love for this game. And out of that love, I keep myself close to the game and routine without expecting much and through any opportunity I get, be it domestic or county.”
Though no longer in the Test squad, Pujara’s resolve is evident. With each innings in domestic and county cricket, he continues to chase excellence, guided not just by ambition but a deep, unwavering love for the game.
