Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat as a “brave daughter” of the nation during a special interaction with the athletes on the Independence Day who represented India at the 2024 Paris Olympics. The event, held at the Prime Minister’s residence, was a celebration of the grit, determination, and achievements of the Indian contingent at the prestigious global event.
The atmosphere was one of pride and camaraderie as PM Modi met with the athletes who competed in Paris, recognizing their hard work and the dedication they exhibited on the world stage. Among the many athletes present, Vinesh Phogat stood out, not just for her accomplishments but for the courage she displayed throughout the Games.
Addressing the gathering, PM Modi expressed his admiration for all the athletes, especially the Indian hockey team, Manu Bhaker, Sarabjot Singh, Aman Sehrawat, etc., emphasizing the importance of their contributions to India’s sporting legacy. He specifically acknowledged the challenges faced by Vinesh Phogat, who competed despite significant physical and mental hurdles, calling her a “brave daughter” of India.
The Silver medallist, Neeraj Chopra was not among the athletes who met PM Modi as he travelled to Germany from Paris in order to consult the doctor about his groin injury.
