Sameer Wankhede, his wife receive death threats; seeks protection from Mumbai Police

Former NCB chief, who is involved in the Aryan Khan drug case, Sameer Wankhede, and his wife have been receiving death threats. Wankhede has sought protection from the Mumbai police commissioner’s office.

In a recent development, Sameer Wankhede, the ex-chief of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in Mumbai, has reportedly reached out to the Mumbai police commissioner’s office for protection. According to sources, Wankhede and his spouse have allegedly been receiving death threats over the past few days, prompting him to take this step.

According to an official, a letter has been sent to the police commissionerate in south Mumbai via a representative of Wankhede, who has been accused in a bribery case related to the recent ‘drug bust’ on a cruise.

On May 11, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) reportedly charged Wankhede and four others for allegedly demanding a bribe of Rs 25 crore from actor Shah Rukh Khan. The bribe was allegedly in exchange for not implicating the actor’s son Aryan in the Cordelia cruise ‘drug bust’ case.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has interrogated Wankhede over the weekend in relation to his alleged involvement in criminal conspiracy, extortion threats, and bribery under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
In a recent development, an Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer has come forward with claims of receiving death threats along with his wife, Kranti Redkar. The couple has reportedly been subjected to abusive messages on various social media platforms for the past four days.

A First Information Report (FIR) has been filed against Wankhede and four others, following a report by the then deputy director of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Gyaneshwar Singh. Singh led a Special Enquiry Team in the ‘drug bust’ case involving a cruise ship, after allegations of irregularities came to light.

Sameer Wankhede, the officer in charge of the drugs-on-cruise case, has departed for a CBI enquiry in Mumbai. He expressed confidence that the truth would be revealed.

According to Wankhede, a FIR was filed against him last week in response to a complaint he had filed against Singh with the National Commission for Scheduled Castes.

According to sources, Wankhede has made serious allegations against Singh, claiming that he was subjected to humiliation and harassment during an inquiry due to his belonging to a backward community.

In a recent development, the Bombay High Court has granted Wankhede an extension of his interim protection from any coercive action, including arrest, until June 8.

During a hearing of a petition filed by a former NCB zonal director, the CBI informed the Bombay High Court on Monday that the official is attempting to present alleged messages exchanged with film superstar Shah Rukh Khan as evidence of his integrity.

In his petition, Wankhede has cited the messages exchanged with Khan and claimed that the Bollywood superstar had no grievances against him. According to Wankhede, Khan had requested him to be kind to his son Aryan Khan.
