Indian pacer Mohammed Shami took to Instagram on Thursday, November 21, to criticize former cricketer-turned-analyst Sanjay Manjrekar for his recent prediction regarding Shami’s future in the IPL. Manjrekar, speaking as an expert, had suggested that Shami’s price tag might decline in the IPL 2025 mega auction due to his fitness issues over the past year.
Shami, however, dismissed these remarks with a sharp retort on Instagram as he wrote, “Baba ki jay hoooooo. Thodsa gyan apne future k lie bhi bacha loo kam ayega Sanjay G? Kisi ko future janna ho to sir se mile.”
Sanjay Manjrekar’s comments stem from Mohammad Shami’s limited appearances in competitive cricket over the last year. The 34-year-old fast bowler missed the IPL 2024 season, the T20 World Cup 2024, and was excluded from India’s squad for the five-match Test series against Australia due to injury concerns.
Despite his fitness setbacks, Shami has consistently demonstrated his prowess when fit. During the 2023 ODI World Cup, he was a standout performer, claiming 24 wickets in seven matches. However, his only First Class appearance in the last 12 months has raised questions about his longevity and readiness for rigorous formats.
Shami has been an IPL stalwart since his debut in 2013, playing for franchises like Kolkata Knight Riders, Delhi Capitals, Punjab Kings, and Gujarat Titans. Over 110 matches, the pacer has taken 127 wickets, maintaining his reputation as a reliable strike bowler.
