On April 19, NCP leader and Sharad Pawar’s daughter, Supriya Sule, predicted two political quakes within 15 days. On the thirteenth day following Sule’s statements, Sharad Pawar announced his resignation as the leader of the party he founded 20 years ago. What is the second earthquake to which she alludes?
Supriya Sule, the head of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), had anticipated two political quakes in the upcoming 15 days, one in New Delhi and one in Maharashtra.
On Tuesday, Sharad Pawar announced his resignation as the NCP’s president, ending his 24-year rule over the organization. Sharad Pawar’s daughter Supriya Sule represents Sharad Pawar’s former congressional district of Baramati as a member of the Lok Sabha.
When asked about Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi chairman Prakash Ambedkar’s prediction that there would be (political) “bomb blasts” in the state within the next 15 days, Supriya Sule made the remark to media. Ajit Pawar may join the BJP in Maharashtra, according to rising rumors. This comes less than a year after dissident Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde became the state’s chief minister with help from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The sources said that prominent figures like Praful Patel, Chagan Bhujbal, Sunil Tatkare, and Dhananjay Munde supported Ajit Pawar’s goals.
Rumours began to circulate just as the Supreme Court was due to rule on a petition seeking to disqualify 16 legislators who launched a revolt against the Uddhav Thackeray-led MVA government. Eknath Shinde led the rebellion, which later merged with the BJP to create the government.
Political experts feel that if a ruling is rendered against Shinde’s Sena, the BJP and deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis will require the assistance of Ajit Pawar and his MPs.
Sharad Pawar’s resignation announcement came just days after he made a cryptic comment when addressing the party’s youth section.
“Someone told me that roti has to be turned at the right time,” Sharad Pawar remarked in a statement that now sheds light on his decision. It becomes bitter if not turned.”
Many people assumed Sharad Pawar’s cryptic remark was a hint about his nephew Ajit Pawar’s next move. Ajit Pawar responded to Sharad Pawar’s cryptic comment by saying it was the NCP’s practice to bring in new faces.
On Tuesday, shortly after Sharad Pawar announced his resignation, Ajit Pawar announced the formation of a committee to select the party’s next president. He stated that committee members are “people within the NCP family, be it myself or Supriya Sule.”
