“The Ashes” series began in 1882 when England lost to Australia by eight runs in their own backyard. Find out all you need to know about “The Ashes.”

The coveted “The Ashes” series, which is being played between the two teams today, began in 1882 when England lost to Australia by eight runs in their own backyard. Australia visited England in August 1882 to play a Test match. Australia lost their first innings of batting after being bowled out for only 63 runs, giving the English team a commanding lead in the Test.

Due to the potent periods of Ted Peate (4/31) and Dick Barlow (5/19), only Jack Blackham (17) and Billy Murdoch (13) were able to hit scores above ten. All other batters collapsed. In response, England could not summon much either as visitors got all out for just 101 thanks to medium pacer Frederick Spofforth’s 7/46. Only Maurice Read (19*) and George Ulyett (26), though, could play some passable knocks. However, England was able to take some solace from their slim 38-run advantage against Australia.

In Australia’s second inning, the hitters’ misery continued. Despite playing some excellent innings, Hugh Massie (55) and skipper Murdoch (29) were unable to prevent his team from posting another low total. Australia’s lead, which was just 85 runs long, did not provide them with a significant edge. With 4/40, Ted Peate once again shone for England.

WG Grace scored 32 on the second day of the match, but England lost the Test. When Ted Peate, the final hitter for England, stepped up to the plate, the team still needed 10 runs to win. Only two run could be scored before he got out. England lost a Test at home after being all out for 77 runs. In the second inning, Frederick Spofforth maintained his incredible run by capturing 7/44.

The press received a ton of criticism after the game. The classic words that gave rise to “The Ashes” and heightened the rivalry between England and Australia were written by The Sporting Times, a weekly English newspaper at the time.

“In Fond Memory Of English Cricket, Which Died At The Oval On August 29, 1882, Deeply Lamented By A Large Circle Of Sorrowful Friends And Acquaintances. The fake obituary for English cricket, which read, “R. I. P. N.B.–The body will be cremated and the ashes will be taken to Australia,” set off a rivalry that would alter the game for all time.

With this, cricket gained a treasure it could treasure as well as its first significant rivalry prior to the emergence of the India vs Pakistan rivalry. On the cricket pitch, an urn known as “The Ashes urn” evolved to represent this rivalry and to serve as a prize worth battling for. It’s thought to be made out of the remains of a burned cricket bail.

In December of that year, Australia hosted the inaugural Ashes series. England returned “The Ashes” to England after winning the series 2-1. Since then, there have been 72 iterations of this series, the majority of which included five Test matches. Australia has won 34 of these series, while England isn’t far behind with 32 victories. There have been six draws in series. With 5,028 runs, Australian great Don Bradman leads the Ashes record book. With 195 to his credit, late Australian spin legend Shane Warne holds the record for most Ashes wickets.

One section of online users got so frustrated that it termed Anushka Sharma as panauti (bad luck) for Kohli because they felt that whenever Anushka is present in the stadium, Virat Kohli fails to perform and India loses the match.

Well, the couple is unaffected with all the online trolling and recently they were spotted attending Krishna Das Kirtan Show in London. A Twitter user posted the photo of the couple from the event with the caption, “Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma at the Krishna Das Kirtan show in London.”

There is no denying the fact that the aggressive cricketer Virat Kohli has become quite spiritual in the last one year or so as some time back, he along with his wife Anushka visited Neem Karoli Baba’s ashram in Vrindavan and Bhagwan Shiv temple in Ujjain as well.

Some feel that Anushka Sharma has brought these changes in Virat which have helped him in improving his game as well. What do you think of it?

Ramanand Sagar’s Son Prem Sagar Criticizes Prabhas’ Adipurush

“Papaji had said, ‘No one will be able to make such a Ramayana for 85 years’,” reveals Prem Sagar and rightly so.

One of the most awaited movies of the year, Adipurush finally got released yesterday and it got a grand opening as it is being estimated that the film would have earned more than Rs. 100 crores worldwide on the first day. However, the movie and the makers have also been slammed by many for poor direction, distortion of facts, characterization and tapori type dialogues.

Many are comparing Adipurush with Ramanand Sagar directed Ramayana which was aired on television in the year 1987 and all of them are of the opinion that Ramanand Sagar did a far better job despite the fact that the VFX and special effects technology was not much advanced at that time.

Recently, Ramanand Sagar’s son Prem Sagar has talked about Adipurush; he says that he hasn’t watched the movie but he has watched the teaser and the trailer of the film. During the interview when Prem Sagar was told about the tapori (slang) dialogues spoken by Bhagwan Hanuman in the movie, Prem Sagar said that Om Raut tried to create Marvels through his movie.

Prem Sagar stated that his father also took some creative liberty but he never tampered with the facts and in his opinion, showing Lankesh or Ravana as a ferocious villain is also a mistake as he was a great scholar who indulged in destruction at a huge level as he knew that he would get salvation through Bhagwan Rama only.

When Prem Sagar was asked whether he is thinking of making a web series on Ramayana, his reply was in negative as he stated, “Papaji had said, ‘No one will be able to make such a Ramayana for 85 years, Papaji was sent to tell the story of Bhagwan Rama. He told the story of Maryada Purushottam to the people and went away”.

Adipurush is getting a lot of negative criticism, what do you think about it?

0

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has “strong faith” in the BJP’s principles. He says he would rather jump into a well than join the Congress party.

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari said a politician had once advised him to join the Congress party. In reply to the avise, Gadkari said he would prefer jumping into a well than join the Congress party. Nitin Gadkari added that he has “strong faith” in the BJP’s principles and would keep working for the party it.

Gadkari recalled the counsel previously offered by late Congress leader Shrikant Jichkar while speaking to a crowd in Bhandara, Maharashtra, on Friday to commemorate nine years of the Narendra Modi administration at the Center.

‘You are a very excellent party worker and leader, and if you join the Congress, you will have a brilliant future,’ Jichkar once told me. Gadkari was reported by news agency PTI as stating, “But I assured him that I have high trust in the BJP and its principles and would continue to fight for it. I would sooner jump into a well than join the Congress.

Nitin Gadkari said the BJP government at the Centre has done twice the amount of work in India during its nine years of administration as compared to what Congress had done in 10 years of its rule.

The Minister said that Congress created a number of educational institutes for “personal gains” during its protracted tenure at the Centre. He added that since the founding of Congress, there have been several splits.

“We must remember the democratic past of our nation. To improve the future, we must take lessons from the past. The Congress used the motto “Garibi Hatao” (eradicate poverty) throughout its 60 years in power, but created a number of educational institutions for private benefit, he claimed.

PM Modi has been praised by Gadkari. Nitin Gadkari also commended PM Modi for his goal of making India a superpower financially.

Prabhas’ Adipurush Slammed For Distortion Of Facts, Indians Are Angry

Om Raut directed Adipurush which is based on the Hindu epic Ramayana and stars Prabhas and Kriti Sanon in the roles of Raghav and Janaki released yesterday and it has opened to some very negative reviews. Not just the critics but audiences are also slamming the makers for distorting the facts in the name of creative liberty and also for the use of slang language in the movie.

The film in which Saif Ali Khan has played the character of Lankesh has attracted controversies from the time its teaser was launched because many people alleged that the movie seems to be the Hindi adaptation of Hollywood movie, Planet of the Apes rather than Ramayana. The characterization of Lankesh was also under fire as he looked more as a Mughal invader rather than Raavan.

Though Adipurush has earned around Rs. 100 crores on the first day of its opening and it may recover its cost as earlier the makers have earned Rs. 432 crores by selling the satellite right, music rights and digital rights of the movie but the huge majority of audiences is very angry with the director, writer and actors of Adipurush.

Twitterati expressed their annoyance and disappointment and here are some selected reactions:

Nehru Memorial Museum And Library’s name changed to Prime Ministers’ Museum And Library; But why?

0

The Nehru Memorial Museum and Library Society’s name has been changed to Prime Ministers’ Museum and Library Society. In doing so the  Nehru Memorial Museum and Library Society’s reference to former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru has also been removed. All this has sparked heated political debate.

Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, who serves as the Nehru Memorial Museum And Library Society’s vice president, headed a meeting on Friday. During the meeting it was decided to remove the name Nehru from the Nehru Memorial Museum and Library Society.

The Prime Ministers’ Museum shows the country’s strong dedication to democracy, thus the name of the institution “should reflect its new form,” Nripendra Misra, Chairman of the Executive Council, said during the Society meeting.

Singh “welcomed the proposal for a change in the name” since, in its current form, the institution “displays the contributions of all prime ministers from Jawaharlal Nehru to Narendra Modi and their responses to various challenges faced by them.”

Renaming a building does not erase a legacy, according to the Congress, which described it as an act of “vengeance”.

“Pettiness & Vengeance, thy name is Modi,” said Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh, who is also in charge of communications. Nehru Memorial Museum and Library (NMML) has served as a global intellectual monument and treasure trove of books and archives for more than 59 years. The Prime Ministers Museum & Society will be its new name.

“What won’t Mr. Modi do to misrepresent, denigrate, and destroy the name and memory of the Indian nation-state’s architect? The self-styled Vishwaguru is a little, diminutive man, tormented by his anxieties, Ramesh observed.

The Teen Murti Bhavan, according to Congress General Secretary (Organization) K C Venugopal, is a significant landmark where India’s future was shaped.

“Our first prime minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, was the mastermind behind India’s post-independence grandeur. It is a small-minded decision that further devalues the current government, Venugopal wrote on Twitter, to erase his legacy by renaming the Nehru Memorial Museum and Library.

“Nehru Ji’s vision served as the cornerstone for all of India’s successes. The respected status that Nehru ji has in every Indian’s heart won’t be altered by taking his name out of a museum, he claimed.

According to congressman, Manish Tewari,  renaming the Nehru Memorial Museum and Library Society does not remove its historical legacy.

Tewari said on Twitter that he wished anyone who wanted to downplay Jawahar Lal Nehru’s role in the liberation movement and the development of modern India would take the time to study Glimpses of World History and Discovery of India.
