This was said by Sundar Pichai:
‘Googlers, I have some unfortunate news to offer,’ remarked Pichai. We have chosen to cut 12,000 positions from our payroll.
In this regard, we have already sent a separate email to the impacted workers in the United States.
This means saying goodbye to some extremely brilliant individuals whom we worked hard to attract and with whom we enjoyed working. I sincerely apologise. I accept full responsibility for the choices that led us here.”

This amount represents around 5% of the company’s entire workforce.
Microsoft employs almost 2 lakh people.
Meta to Amazon layoffs
Last year, Facebook’s parent company, Meta, wielded such a retrenchment sword in the name of cost cutting, claiming the recession, that 11000 employees were shown the exit.
Amazon announced the layoff of thousands of employees (Amazon Layoff) at the start of the year 2023, dealing a significant blow to its workforce.
According to a source, online giant Amazon plans to lay off more than 18,000 employees worldwide.
