Indian pacer Mohammed Shami, who recently made a remarkable comeback in domestic cricket after nearly a year of injury setbacks, is not expected to travel to Australia anytime soon for the ongoing Test series against the hosts. Despite speculation about his inclusion, reports indicate that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is content with the current fast-bowling lineup and has no immediate plans to send Shami to Australia.
Mohammad Shami has been in fine form during his domestic return:
Ranji Trophy: Picked seven wickets against Madhya Pradesh in his comeback match for Bengal.
Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy: Claimed four wickets in two matches. He took 1/46 in Bengal’s opener against Punjab and followed it with an impressive 3/21 against Hyderabad in Rajkot.
These performances underline Shami’s readiness, but the BCCI is reportedly not looking to disrupt the current Test squad.
According to a source cited by a leading daily, there are no discussions about sending Shami to Australia. The team management is satisfied with the performances of the pacers already in the squad.
“There has been no conversation around trying to send Shami to Australia, at least for now. The fast bowlers chosen for the tour and the first XI in the opening Test at Perth are doing their job very well,” said the source.
India’s fast bowlers shone in the first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy at Perth, where the visitors secured a commanding 295-run victory as the pacers dismissed 18 batters in total.
While Md. Shami remains a valuable asset, the current fast-bowling lineup’s stellar form makes his immediate inclusion unnecessary. For now, Shami continues to gain match fitness and form in domestic cricket, potentially positioning himself for future international opportunities.
