Inflection AI raises $225M to make communication with computers easier

0

Inflection AI Inc. raised $225 million in new cash. Some 27 investors bought stakes in the startup as part of its fundraising.  The company hopes to make it easier for humans to communicate with computers.

A company with high-profile founders is raising $225 million in additional investment to make it simpler for people to connect with machines.

In a regulatory filing on Friday, Inflection AI Inc. reported its latest cash haul. As part of the company’s financing, 27 investors purchased shares.

The identities of those funders were not disclosed by the Palo Alto firm, which was launched earlier this year.

Reid Hoffman, co-founder of LinkedIn Corp., founded Inflection earlier this year with Mustafa Suleyman and Karen Simonyan, both DeepMind Technologies Ltd., Google LLC’s artificial intelligence research arm.

They haven’t said much about what they’re working on, although Suleyman, the startup’s CEO, hinted to the media in January.

He told the media, “I definitely feel like we haven’t really cracked the nut of how we make technology platforms, software, and, of course, AI feel like they’re happening with people, and where people have significant influence in shaping how it arrives in their world and doesn’t just happen to people.”

Suleyman built on this notion when Inflection started in March. In a blog article, he predicted that humans will soon be able to interact with computers as effortlessly as they do with other people.

He said, “These new language capabilities will redefine what it means to have a digital experience over time.”

How this 14-YO girl built organic perfume startup Bella Fragrances

0

Aryahi Agarwal is a 14-year-old girl who founded organic perfume startup, Bella Fragrances. Aryahi launched a company upcycling used t-shirts into bags, when she was 11 years old.

Mumbai-based Aryahi Agarwal, a Class 9 student, is responsible for a few extra tasks. She is the 14-year-old founder of Bella Fragrances, an organic perfume business that promotes itself as a 100 percent organic perfume line for teens.

This is her second attempt at business. When she was 11 years old, she launched a company upcycling used t-shirts into bags. She won first prize in a competition for it.

Three years later, she launched her second firm. She feels the inspiration came from a need to acquire inexpensive perfume for herself.

The bulk of high-quality fragrances cost up to Rs 2,000, making them too expensive for a student to purchase on their own. She wanted to make something that her friends could afford without spending a fortune.

During the lockdown, she was seeking for a good scent. She has never been able to locate a scent that she can wear to school. The notes were either too old for her or had a strong flowery aroma.

This is how Aryahi got the idea to create an organic perfume and fragrance collection for adolescent females. Instead than depending on her mother’s collection, she decided to develop her own perfume.

She also desired to create something delicate enough to wear to school. Aryahi worked for six months on her business idea before launching it.

She was able to meet with a number of industry leaders and veterans, all of whom warned me not to enter the business. They informed her it was impossible to create an organic perfume in the price range she desired. As a result, there was no help from that source as well.

Handcrafted Organic Perfumes are included in each bottle. Aryahi spent over six months experimenting with essential oil mixtures before deciding on the optimal organic perfume formulation. Everything is handmade, and she develops all of her own recipes.

Each batch she produced, she handed to others to taste. Based on their comments, she fine-tuned the recipe at each stage.

When she had the concept, she had a ready testing group because her intended demographic was adolescents. Every few months, she would give her pals a bottle of perfume and solicit their opinions. They have given her the best, and maybe most important, advice she could have asked for.

Bella Organics and Bella Naturals are the two organic perfume perfumes that are currently available. Both cost Rs 599 for a 30-ml bottle. Bella Naturals comprises 21 notes, is gentle on the skin, lasts longer, and has a flowery aroma.

Bella Organics, on the other hand, has three notes, is gentler, and is mostly composed of rose. Each bottle has up to 80 spray counts and should last up to three months.

She has been getting orders since December 2021, and she has witnessed continual growth, resulting in a profit of over Rs 65,000. Her father had invested Rs 20,000 in her business at the outset, and she is pleased to report that she was able to quadruple that amount in less than three months.

Investment giant SoftBank to cut startup funding as losses cross $13B

0

SoftBank is expected to reduce startup funding by more than half in 2022.

Japanese investment giant suffered a massive net loss of $13.14 billion in the last financial year. SoftBank posted a massive financial loss of 1.708 trillion yen ($13.14 billion) for the fiscal year ending March 31, warning it would be forced to decrease startup funding by more than half this year.

According to Nikkei Asia, the Japanese investment behemoth also disclosed its largest-ever quarterly net loss, 2.1 trillion yen ($16.2 billion), during the January-March quarter.

SoftBank also disclosed a record $27 billion loss for the year to its Vision Funds, owing to large losses in investments in digital businesses such as Coupang and Didi Global.

SoftBank spent $2.5 billion in the January-March quarter, compared to $10.4 billion in the preceding quarter. The investment giant put more than $46 billion of its money in startups in the previous fiscal year.

SoftBank CEO Masayoshi Son stated that “the amount of fresh investments (in startups) will be half or as little as a quarter” compared to previous year.

The company’s stock dropped 8% ahead of the news on Thursday, the lowest level in over two months.

According to Redex Research analyst Kirk Boodry’s estimations, “other dismal performers included Singaporean ride-hailing business Grab, US food delivery firm DoorDash, and Indian payments organization Paytm, which combined lost close to $5 billion throughout the quarter.”

“The investing environment remains tough,” SoftBank stated, citing fast-rising prices, increasingly complex geopolitical risk, and a global energy shock.

SoftBank’s $100 billion Vision Fund, which is funded by Saudi Arabia and Abu Dhabi, was unveiled in 2017.

Digital Transformation and its impact on Education

Digital transformation is an indisputable force revolutionizing our industries, reinventing our products, redefining our services, and reshaping the way we live and work. Its impact demands a change in schools and teaching practice. It shows how emerging technologies, including analytics and artificial intelligence, deliver far greater understanding of student capabilities and support new approaches to teaching and learning.

Schools around the world quickly transformed into online schools when the pandemic hit, but as students and teachers are returning to the physical space, it is the time to see this as an exciting opportunity to fundamentally change the lives of children and shift the trajectory of the community to re-think the school system.

Today’s students need real-world skills to thrive in the not-too-distant future. They must develop qualities like critical thinking, collaboration, creativity, self-awareness, self-management, responsible decision-making, and the ability to construct complex solutions. This is true regardless of subject area. Complex skills are as important for artistic, service, and human-oriented professions as they are for more scientific, technological, or industrial employment.

Professional development for School leaders

Highest success of adoption among the teacher begins with the leadership team as they adopt a growth mindset, exhibit a personal culture of learning, and leverage modern technologies to support their collaboration and communications. They must reach beyond their institution’s walls to work with other educational systems, schools and communities and consider the successes of others to develop their own methodologies. In the process, they practice a principle of distributed leadership, where they share responsibilities across their organization and empower others. A learning leader focuses on what their teachers know and educating them in their craft so that they can better educate their students. They use data to assess how their students and teachers are performing and create a collegial environment where teachers trust that they can learn from one another.

Meet the salesman who built Rs 46 crore apparel brand from Rs 50,000

0

Anuj Mundhra, who once worked a salesman, was among the earliest entrepreneurs to leverage the online marketplace. His apparel business Nandani Creation Ltd clocks a Rs 46 crore turnover.

Anuj Mundhra rose from modest beginnings as a salesperson in a saree boutique earning a meager monthly wage of Rs 1400 to developing a Rs 46 crore turnover clothing firm via hard effort and a never-say-die attitude in the face of adversity.

Anuj, creator of Jaipur-based Nandani Creation Ltd and promoter of the Jaipur Kurti brand, explains, “In my life, I have followed a code, which is either forget everything and flee, or face everything and rise.”

He selected the latter option and has always been a warrior. Anuj began working soon after finishing his Class 12 and then earned his B. Com from the Commerce College in Jaipur.

From 2001 to 2003, he worked at a saree store before joining a textile dealer in Jaipur.

Anuj made his first significant move in 2004, when he borrowed Rs 50,000 from his mother to establish a block and screen printing business.

After viewing the billboards of e-commerce portals Jabong and Snapdeal on a visit to Delhi eight years later, Anuj made the largest leap of faith in 2012, when India was taking its first steps in digital retailing, and bought his now popular domain jaipurkurti.com.

The plan was to offer women’s ethnic clothes online under the brand name Jaipur Kurti, and the strategy worked despite some early difficulties.

Anuj believes that because of the convenience and importance of internet shopping, Indians have become accustomed to it.  However, this was not the case in 2012, when people’s trust in internet purchases was extremely low. Jaipur Kurti is now ranked among the top women’s ethnic wear companies in the internet industry.

The majority of their sales are made through e-commerce sites like as Flipkart, Amazon, Myntra, Snapdeal, Nykaa, Ajio, Paytm, Tata Cliq, Meesho, Limeroad, and a tiny amount through their own portal. His young firm’s prosperity was accelerated by the first-mover advantage.

His proprietary enterprise, Nandani Creation, which began operations in 2004, was renamed Nandani Creation Private Limited in 2012, with Jaipur Kurti as a clothing brand.

The firm made a significant profit of Rs 59 lakh in its first fiscal year, 2012-2013. Anuj believes that the future of retail will be ‘bricks and clicks,’ thus the company’s approach is both online and offline.

Anuj is following his intuition once more and developing his offline company. He believes that offline retail will have a significant revival.

“We are currently expanding. We intend to build 100 company-operated or franchised outlets around the country by 2025 “Anuj adds

They are also attempting to lessen third-party reliance by decreasing the proportion of sales made through other e-commerce sites.

His family has been very engaged in his business. Dwarka Mundhra, his father, is in charge of the company’s finances.

“One of the biggest blows to my business happened in 2010, when I received a large order from a well-known retail chain. But the order was refused, and I was deeply in debt “Anuj concurs.

He had spent Rs 60-70 lakh on the clothing, but when the contract was cancelled, he was forced to sell them at a loss. In that single case, he lost millions of rupees.

He was also married to Vandana Luthra, a fashion designer, at the time.

When the firm was listed on e-commerce portals Jabong and Snapdeal, they began selling in-house created apparel online, which permanently transformed their fortunes.

The firm has grown to include a design studio and a production house, as well as a staff of skilled designers who work under Vandana’s supervision.

Women’s Kurtis, dresses, suit sets, kurta, palazzo, skirts, salwar suits, dupatta, tops, and pants are among the apparel items available in both modern and ethnic patterns.

Taking every chance, he began producing N95 masks under the trade name ‘Value Plus’ throughout the outbreak.

Though Nandani Creations was named after his niece Nandani, the name of his luxury apparel line ‘Amaiva’ was inspired by his daughter Amyra and wife Vandana.

This high-end brand will retail exclusively in their retail stores and website.

Inspiring story of IFS officer who was diagnosed with IIH, failed twice

0

Doctors told Anisha Tomar she had Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension (IIH) when she began studying for her second attempt at the UPSC examinations. She later became a well-known IFS officer.

Success and failure stories both motivate us in different ways. Such anecdotes inspire UPSC hopefuls to persevere in their difficult road toward becoming a government servant.

Anisha Tomar, an IFS officer from New Delhi who passed the test with an All India Rank (AIR) of 94 on her third try in 2019, revealed her tough path on Quora.

Anisha, like every other aspirant, began with vigour and optimism. But she realized it was going to be a difficult challenge immediately after the first prelim.

Furthermore, she was diagnosed with Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension (IIH) in February 2018, just as she began preparing for her second try.

Anisha said, “With prelims only a few months away, I felt like my dream was slipping away from me. Somewhere in the midst of drugs, MRIs, and spinal taps, I mustered the strength to study despite the pain.” She feared she’d never be able to recover from her two-month hiatus.

Surprisingly, she passed the prelims but failed the mains by six marks that year.

Nonetheless, she was unwilling to give up on her ambition. Anisha breezed through the prelims once more and concentrated on the mains. She spent more time this semester on ethics, essays, and elective subjects.

Anisha says that her right hand’s pinky finger was completely swollen and bruised.

She was overjoyed after the exams, and an interview call seemed imminent.

She passed the mains and went to the interview, as predicted. Anisha recalls staying cool and composed during the interview.

However, the delay in publicizing the results made her anxious.Anisha describes her feelings as fear, concern, lethargy, and fatigue. The thought of studying for prelims tormented her.

However, the youngster’s diligence paid off. Her eyes welled up when she saw her position of 94th.

“Growth is gradual, life is unpredictable, hope is all we have,” Anisha said in her article.

These sensible comments of an ambitious lady inspire everybody — UPSC applicant or not. Through her hardships, she highlights the need of taking care of oneself no matter what.

Meet the engineers who built Rs 120 lac startup to turn waste into manure

0

Engineering graduates, Chandan Kagganapalli and Darshan Challuru, built a  startup, Ecofinix, to turn organic waste into fertile and nutrient-rich manure. The business clocks an annual turnover of Rs. 120 lac.

Every year, over 40 million pilgrims visit Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam. The aggregate trash created by the enormous population is around 40 tonnes every day.

Residents of the city, Chandan Kagganapalli and Darshan Challuru, were concerned about the rubbish stacking up at the dump yard. To solve the problem, these engineering grads opted to turn the organic waste into fertile and nutrient-rich manure.

In 2020, Chandan founded Ecofinix and enlisted Dharsan, together with K Varun Kumar and M Praveen Kumar, to process tons of garbage from the temple town while also encouraging farmers to make the green transition by allowing them to practice chemical-free farming.

Dharsan explains, “Chandan and I met in a startup community and quickly connected over our desire to offer sustainable solutions to the environment. We began discussing company concepts and voiced our worries about the city’s rising garbage generation at one of the meetings. We thought it was our primary obligation to preserve our country’s attractiveness. As a result, we decided to establish a recycling and processing plant and promptly approached the city commissioner.”

According to the 23-year-old, the city leader gave them the opportunity. He says they established two units that process organic or moist trash in three ways.

The first approach is conventional, in which garbage is allowed to decay naturally through bacteria before being converted into vermicompost,” he explains, adding that the process takes roughly 40 days to produce organic-rich manure.

According to Dharsan, the second approach includes sorting dry and moist trash on a treadmill-like conveyor belt. Dry garbage is segregated by size for recycling, while organic waste is composted using natural composting processes.

Dharsan says, here they sort and recycle solid waste such as plastic and glass.

He says, “The third way is the quickest since the trash is introduced in a specially designed chamber created in partnership with an engineering firm. It is instantly digested, and the organic compost is ready the same day.”

They believe that while technology developments made it easier for them to produce organic fertilizer, persuading farmers to embrace the change in farming practices was tough.

He explains, “Farmers in the area had not utilized vermicompost and were skeptical of the product. To persuade them, we gave out 2,000 kilograms of compost manure for free.”

The waste that is collected is either recycled or transformed into organic compost.

According to Chandan, the team also illustrated the advantages of utilizing organic fertilizer by producing crops on a plot of land.

He says, “Farmers gradually began to adopt Ecofinix’s organic compost. So far, over 1,000 people have used it, and we’ve also targeted terrace gardeners.”

Following its success in Tirupati, the company extended its operations in Rajahmundry with the assistance of the local civic body.

Farmers may purchase organic compost for Rs 4 per kg. According to Dharsan, the firm handles 100 tonnes of garbage every day and earns a monthly revenue of around Rs 10 lakh.

He says, “We are spreading our business to other states in order to assist more farmers in increasing their harvests. Several initiatives are being developed to raise awareness and boost the usage of organic compost in order to convince farmers to abandon the use of pesticides.”
