Priyanka Gandhi responds to mounting pressure to postpone NEET PG 2022 exam

0

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has asked the health minister to postpone NEET PG 2022 exam. This is in response to mounting pressure from medical professionals and MBBS graduates to delay the National Eligibility Entrance Test for Postgraduate (NEET) PG 2022.

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has come out in favor of medical professionals and MBBS graduates who are calling for the National Eligibility Entrance Test for Postgraduate (NEET) PG 2022 to be postponed. In a tweet, Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi tagged Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, requesting him to relieve applicants of mental stress by delaying the exam.

The test is set to take place on May 21. The Supreme Court will hear a petition seeking a delay of NEET PG 2022 on May 13. Candidates have requested that it be postponed by six to eight weeks, claiming a lack of time for preparation since the NEET PG 2021 counselling procedure concludes late.

Gandhi tweeted, “Due to the delay in counseling for NEETPG2021, the applicants for NEETPG2022 are putting forth a very fair demand to postpone the test by a few weeks. Please reduce these young people’s mental anguish by delaying the exam for a few weeks. #POSTPONENEETPG2022.”

The NEET-PG 2022 test was originally set for March but was postponed to May 21 due to many requests from physicians and students to postpone the exam. A false circular indicating that NEET PG 2022 has been postponed to July 9 was also doing the rounds. However, the government’s fact-checking agency, PIB Fact Check, stated that the circular is a forgery and that the test has not been rescheduled.

Aspirants have been requesting delay of the NEET PG 2022 test, saying that NEET counselling 2021 is still ongoing, leaving just a little time between the counselling and the following exam. Furthermore, the application forms are not yet accessible, and doctors who passed NEET PG 2021 with a lower rank are still awaiting counselling; nevertheless, if they do not receive a seat, they will be unable to register for NEET PG 2022. This will cost them a year.

Aspirants further allege that 5000 interns would be disqualified from taking the test since they served during the Covid-19 epidemic. They will be able to do so if the exam is extended.

Senior counsel Rakesh Khanna filed the petition in the Supreme Court, which will be considered on May 13, on behalf of physicians who want the NEET PG to be postponed. Justices DY Chandrachud and PS Narasimha will hear the plea. The petitioners are asking for a “fair chance” for applicants to take the exam.

Shopflo raises $2.6M in Tiger Global, TQ Ventures led funding round

0

Shopflo has secured $2.6 million in a seed funding round. Tiger Global and TQ Ventures led the round in the ecommerce enablement startup.

Shopflo, an ecommerce enablement firm, announced a $2.6 million seed fundraising round headed by Tiger Global and TQ Ventures. The round also had the participation of Better Capital and a group of angel investors from the Indian startup ecosystem.

Shopflo is now one of the few Indian firms at the pre-product stage that have gotten seed investment from Tiger Global. While Tiger is a multi-stage fund, it seldom invests in seed-stage startups.

Shopflo, founded in 2021 by Priy Ranjan, Ankit Bansal, and Ishan Rakshit, is a platform that enables direct-to-consumer (D2C) companies to enhance their checkout experience and conversion rates on their own websites.

It also contributes to personalizing these checkout experiences for customers across businesses.  Currently, the business has partnerships with six merchants, including D2C enterprises and a rollup commerce brand.

It has also formed alliances with prominent payment gateways such as Razorpay and Cashfree to provide checkout payments to its merchant partners.

Shopflo’s chief executive officer (CEO) and cofounder, Ranjan, said, “After interacting with over 100 small merchants, we discovered that there is still a checkout gap between smaller companies and larger platforms who own their checkout experiences. We want to ensure that customers have the same checkout experience across all small D2C companies they purchase from by using Shopflo, and we want to enhance conversions for these smaller merchants. We are already witnessing a 15% to 20% spike in conversions for several of these businesses.”

This fiscal year, the business intends to expand its offering to 150 online retailers and handle up to $300 million in gross merchandise value (GMV) checkouts.

Tiger Global partner John Curtius said, “A flawless checkout experience has become a customer basic expectation. However, e-commerce checkout hasn’t altered much in the recent decade. This will be changed by Shopflo. Shopflo is well-positioned to become the default checkout for India’s rapidly increasing D2C sector. We are thrilled to be their first backers on this trip.”

Tiger Global has also made a global investment in Nacelle, a US-based company that operates in the ‘headless’ commerce market.

Companies in the ‘headless’ commerce field are ecommerce infrastructure providers that do not control the storefront or website, nor do they run payments, but instead provide tools in the middle layer to improve consumer experiences.

Vue Storefront and Commerce Layer, two global ecommerce infrastructure tool providers, have also secured funding from YCombinator and Coatue Management, respectively.

While the focus remains on developing the business and finding the perfect product-market fit, Shopflo wants to expand worldwide after its first year of operations, as well as create expanded solutions in discounts and customer loyalty, among other areas.

Schuster Tanger, co-managing partner at TQ Ventures, stated, “Indian e-commerce is a massive trend. The checkout section is at the bottom of the funnel, with the most intent consumers. We were pleased by the Shopflo team’s breadth of expertise of both D2C and payments SaaS.”

K Madhavan built India’s largest spring mattress company in his 50s

0

A former Kurl-On employee, K Madhavan, founded a new business when he was over 50 years old. Peps Industries is well known as  India’s biggest spring mattress company.

K Madhavan,  who founded Peps Industries, and now serves as its managing director, is an embodiment of the fact that we can fulfill our dreams and achieve our goals if we’re determined to do so. Peps Industries which is widely known as the largest spring mattress company in India has its headquarters in Bengaluru.

K Madhavan has nearly 40 years of experience in the mattress market and explains why he’s the best in the business. He is one of the developers who pioneered the notion of branded mattresses to India and saw it through to completion. He has done an outstanding job not just in putting the idea into action, but also in promoting the significance of sleep.

In Mumbai, Maharashtra, he earned his Executive MBA from the SP Jain Institute of Management and Research.

His career began in the rubber sector as a management trainee with Kurl-On in Bangalore in 1977. During his time at Kurl-On, he was an important component of the company’s success and also served as the President of Operations.

K Madhavan also has a Postgraduate Diploma in Polymer Technology from the Indian Rubber Institute and is a member of the All India Rubber Industries Association.

K Madhavan was diagnosed with a sleep disorder and began having restless nights. He was 55 years old, but the problem had nothing to do with his age or his job. He remarked, as usual, that there was only one minor player in India and that the business was controlled by foam and coir mattresses.  As a result, they decided to test this in South India.

All three of them had formulated their ideas, purchased the local manufacturing unit, and formed a partnership with Restonic Corporation, one of the top spring mattress businesses in the United States, to form Peps Industries.

In an interview, K Madhavan stated that they want an appealing name and had established various criteria. They desired a name that people would always remember and recall fast.

The second was that the name should not represent the nature of the goods, and the third was that the name should pique people’s interest.

According to K Madhavan, they discovered significance for Pepsi roughly 15 years later. He said that it was the ideal explanation for calm sleep and that it had liberated him from his sleep condition.

As previously stated, Peps Industries has now become the largest spring mattress company in India, selling over 3 lakh mattresses each year. It also intends to expand its operations into western markets, pushing it to the next level.

According to sources, the firm gets 80 percent of its sales from south India, and K Madhavan has confidently said that demand has increased in recent months.

Under the Dream Decor brand, they’ve also launched a new line of items that includes bed linen, duvets, fitted sheets, pillow coverings, quilts, and a variety of reclining pillows.

They began this because the concept “Why should Peps not symbolize an entire bedroom?” occurred to them.

7 key tips to launch your startup in 2022

0

Now may appear to be an odd moment to start a new business, yet there has never been a better time. Learn 7 key tips to launch your startup in 2022.

More businesses have been launched in the United States this year than ever before. According to US Census Bureau data, about 1.4 million new startup applications will be submitted with the government through September 30, 2021, up from 1.14 million during the same time in 2020.

Given the economic uncertainties, it may appear contradictory, but the fact is that new issues necessitate new solutions, and the current pandemic has presented no shortage of challenges.

Here are 7 key tips to launch your startup in 2022:

1. Begin with an issue and work backwards to find a solution

The finest businesses share three characteristics: they are something the founders want, something they can build, and something few people believe is worthwhile. The idea for Uber came to founders Travis Kalanick and Garrett Camp while they were delayed in Paris on a cold evening and unable to get a car.

2. Market Research

If you’re looking for a concept to launch your startup, you should be aware of what’s available and what isn’t. According to Startups.com creator Wil Schroter, conducting internet research protects you from developing a firm blindly. Sara Blakely, inventor of Spanx, suggests developing a list of goods or businesses that are comparable to your concept.

3. Think about starting as a side hustle

Starting as a side hustle can help you develop your business. If you don’t receive that gratification from your full-time job, your side hustle might help you focus on what you’re most enthusiastic about. It can provide you with the freedom (and more funds) to explore the world, care for the environment, or pursue causes more meaningfully.

Working from home has created the ideal setting for anybody to supplement their income with a side job. There are thousands of methods to earn a fair amount of money during your downtime, depending on your specific requirements and talents. Starting small and expanding organically can help guarantee that your product is solving the problem you set out to answer before infusing your and your investors’ money into the firm.

4. Avoid the Waiting Game

Entrepreneurs are perfectionists by nature. However, the only way to find out if people would enjoy and utilize your product is to put it out there. Don’t waste time waiting. If you do, a rival may pounce and provide a superior option.

5. Concentrate on the Customer, Not the Competition

When you’re just starting out, it’s critical to pay close attention to consumer feedback. Criticism assists us in identifying our pain areas and determining how to innovate and better. When introducing something new or updating, start with a small group and gauge their reactions.

6. Share, Share, and Share some more

Does your product exist if you’re working on a fantastic new product and no one knows about it? According to DemandMetric, 70% of people like to learn about a brand via reading articles. Potential customers can learn about your product and your founder’s journey by writing about it.

7. Prepare to Delegate

One final piece of advice to launch your startup: learn to delegate quickly. The most successful entrepreneurs understand that recruiting skilled individuals to whom you can delegate decision-making allows you to focus on broader picture issues such as business growth.

Growth means relinquishing control and putting your faith in your leadership team to carry out your goal.

Sarita Mali’s inspiring journey from selling flowers on roads to PhD in US

0

Sarita Mali grew up in a slum in Mumbai’s Ghatkopar. She is presently preparing to begin a PhD program at the University of California.

As a Class VI student, Sarita Mali used to accompany her father to sell flowers on Mumbai’s streets and even sprint after vehicles at traffic lights with bouquets in her hand to supplement the family’s meager daily revenue of roughly Rs 300 on a good day.

Mali is now a 28-year-old research fellow at Jawaharlal Nehru University, with plans to earn a PhD at the University of California.

Mali, who was born and raised in a slum in Mumbai’s Ghatkopar, has broken down societal boundaries on several levels, and the native of Uttar Pradesh’s Jaunpur area has a terrible narrative to tell.

Mali says, “My upbringing was riddled with hardships, whether economic, psychological, or due to my gender. Even after overcoming obstacles, there were other ones, such as when I stated my desire to study Hindi literature and was asked why I wanted to fly all the way to Delhi to do so.”

Mali was fortunate to have a passionate supporter in her father.

Surprising, given that he was illiterate and had just lately learned to sign his name, according to his daughter.

Mali says, “My father, despite his lack of education, was the one who inspired me. He has witnessed upper caste folks attain success after acquiring an education in his area. That notion stayed with him. So, even though he hadn’t been able to attend school, he wanted to make his children study in order to avoid the hardships he had suffered in life.”

Mali attended a municipal school in Mumbai and, after completing Class X, began tutoring youngsters in her neighborhood.

She desired to make some money in order to fulfill her father’s demand that she continue her studies. She saved money and enrolled at KJ Somaiya College of Arts and Commerce. Her siblings — an elder sister and two brothers — were inspired by her and, like her, ran tuition courses to pay their education. The sister received her MA degree, while the brothers are currently preparing for competitive tests.

Even today, the simple parent cannot tell the difference between a graduate and a postgraduate. He just understands that being educated equates to having power.

“He instilled in us the empowerment that education provides,” Mali grinned.

While Mali has escaped the cycle of poverty, she becomes concerned when she sees street children following vehicles to offer a variety of goods.

Mali says, “I am overwhelmed every time I see youngsters on the streets. There must be a lot of people out there who can study and advance…The government should strongly advocate for free education and the establishment of new publicly supported colleges.”

Mali, who enrolled at JNU in 2014 for an MA in Hindi literature, said the university influenced her view on life.

“It would not have been feasible for me to study if there had not been a publicly sponsored university like JNU,” she explained.

Mali says it taught her that no matter what caste or class you come from, you can obtain the appropriate chance. She says, “It altered my thought process.”

Mali hopes to enter academics in the future to emphasize the plight of the marginalized.

Sarita Mali said, “I’d want to speak out in support of free education for street children. There must be rules in place that allow such students to study without financial constraints. The contribution of marginalized populations to nation-building must also be acknowledged.”
