Collecting the cigarette butts and turning it into business

0

Started by 2 friends; they collect every butt of the cigarette you smoke and even pay the collectors.

A Noida-based organization is reusing cigarette waste directly from the paper and channel to debris and tobacco. Begun by two companions in their twenties, the organization is battling a gigantic ecological danger. This is the secret!

You smoke a cigarette, guarantee that the butt is completely doused, and continue to toss it in the dustbin (the dependable ones among us) or in the city (every other person). At any point pondered what occurs after that? Does the butt disintegrate? Does anybody reuse it? Or then again does it wind up contaminating water bodies and stopping up channels? Relatively few who smoke understand that a cigarette butt is made of cellulose acetic acid derivation, a plastic channel that isn’t biodegradable and can be around hurting the climate for quite a long time once disposed of.

How It Began?

Slice to Vishal Kanet and Naman Gupta, inhabitants of Noida, who, when going to a gathering at a companion’s place, were stunned to see the quantity of cigarette butts that were thrown away.

There were butts in each edge of the house, which would all be disposed of alongside the remainder of the trash the following day. Companions for a very long time, Vishal and Naman were at that point considering beginning an organization together, and this was their Eureka second. They chose to begin reusing cigarette waste.

The Beginning of CODE –

In July this year, they dispatched Code – an organization that offers a one-quit reusing answer for cigarette waste. They consistently gather waste from their clients and reuse each part of the leftover cigarette. Furthermore, best of all, clients can bring in some cash as a trade-off for simply gathering and giving over cigarette waste to them!

In July this year, they dispatched Code – an organization that offers a one-quit reusing answer for cigarette waste. They routinely gather waste from their clients and reuse each part of the leftover cigarette. Furthermore, best of all, clients can bring in some cash as a trade-off for simply gathering and giving over cigarette waste to them!

Over the most recent three months, the organization has gathered more than 10 kg of cigarette waste, including debris, tobacco, paper, and the channel.

Separating their reusing plan, Naman clarifies that Code is a zero-waste organization. So every last bit of the waste that comes in must be reused. The paper covering the butt and some measure of tobacco that is frequently abandoned with it are natural waste segments that are treated the soil to create fertilizer.

There are limited quantities of debris in the waste. While there was the option to gather only 200 gm of debris till now, the company intends to change over it into fly debris blocks once they have the necessary amount. They also intend to utilize it for making the stuffing for toys and pads, other than bundling and building material. Over the long haul, we likewise plan to research and utilize the channel for assembling air purifiers, says Naman, adding that the treated channel is 99.9% safe for use. They treat the channels with our synthetic compounds and get the final result checked in labs affirmed by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) before it very well may be utilized as a stuffing material.

What CODE Offers?

Code offers a total answer for each client with an organized help bundle. Clients get assortment units called VBins, in which they can gather cigarette waste, and a Code city worker comes in at regular intervals to get it.

Clients have the choice to choose bundles worth Rs 199 for a year or Rs 99 for a quarter of a year, in which they get the canister and ensured pickup administration like clockwork. The receptacle is just a tempered steel tube shaped vessel used to make the assortment simpler.

With an office in Noida, Code as of now serves more than 70 individuals, 50 of whom are merchants. They place the receptacles outside their shops and urge purchasers to discard cigarette butts in them. A couple of corporate organizations have additionally utilized their administrations. Whenever they have gathered sufficient waste, Naman and Vishal will begin selling these results like compost and fly debris, which will help them take the thought forward.

Vishal (25) is an architect by calling and has additionally filled in as an expert picture taker for around two years. Naman is alum from Delhi University. They are similarly excited about climate protection.

For firing up, the pair utilized their own reserve funds and furthermore got assets from their families.

As per reports, cigarette butts are the most littered thing universally, with in excess of 100 billion cigarette butts being unloaded in India consistently. Simply the city of Bengaluru experiences a weight of around 31 lakh littered cigarette butts each day.

Conclusion –

“Cigarette waste is a colossal natural risk today. A large portion of the cigarette channels are cancer-causing and can sully drinking water as well whenever discarded in our water bodies. There is likewise the dread of birds, fish and creatures eating cigarette butts that can be deplorable,”

With potential risks like these, it is an invite alleviation that somebody is running after an answer. “It is only the beginning. Code is just around four months old. In any case, moderating the climate is the main thing toward the day’s end. What’s more, they are putting forth a valiant effort for that.

Count on your dreams, trust yourself and be a hero someday

Pragna Vedant shared her gripping and encouraging life story to the world through the page of ‘Humans of Bombay.’ It shows her success after all failures.

Her single mother brought her up. At the young age of 16, she had to tie the nuptial knot with a man. She made her husband aware that she wished to pursue her career in the beauty industry. She did not get demotivated with their current financial status. She turned her single room into a salon space in which she began trimming hair and threading and shaping the eyebrows. Simultaneously, she organized and ran mehendi sessions.

Her base of customers grew “through word of mouth.” She was successful in creating a ‘buzz’ in the locality. It was far more valuable than proper advertising techniques. This actively encouraged her to learn more. She used her savings to get enrolled in professional beauty courses. She was able to save up enough to open her own salon shop. The salon successfully ran for ten years. She added while talking to the ‘Humans of Bombay’ people visited her salon just to film her chopping, shaping, and setting a hairstyle “being blindfolded.” One can assume the amount of trust invested in her by the clients. Who will like to let anybody in the world experiment with their hairstyle that too blindfolded?

Suddenly in 2005, catastrophe rained down on her. The unprecedented rain caused a flood and paralyzed the city. The monsoon flood killed more than 500 people and the destruction of property worth Rs 1,700 crore was estimated by the official after the water receded. The crippling rain did not affect Pragna and her family members, but the flood swept away her home and salon. She could not bear this heavy blow of losing her dream and shelter; she stressed herself out, resulting in a stroke. The seriousness of the stroke is that it left her paralyzed. After three months of physiotherapy, she was able to move around but in a wheelchair. Few other shocks like left-hand paralysis and vision loss in one eye came on her.

In these difficult times, she did not become an escapist or denied reality. She realized that she “could never be a beautician again” with her shortcomings. Her well-wishers and other people from the beauty industry encouraged her saying, her knowledge is her USP and she should share it instead of limiting it to herself. Pragna considered their advice. She did not succumb to the obstacles which her life threw at her. She became a beauty consultant and started to teach and train young minds under her. She had the will and determination to work hard.

She is a strong woman with strong will power, with which she learned to walk again. She proudly admitted that it was not an easy task for her. She failed multiple times but did not lose hope and continued to learn to pick herself up. She emerged more powerful than ever.

She became a ray of hope for young girls and women coming from the lower strata of society. She organized beauty training courses at a minimal charge or free of cost. She holds the highest record of training 35,000 women in the respective line. Some of the women who have received training from Ms. Pragna Vedant joined big brands and the other women opened and are successfully running their salon shop. Pragna helped numerous women to stand on their feet. She paved the way for them to become financially independent and shine brighter. The women cordially invite her to the inauguration of their salon shops. She feels proud of her students. After all, which teacher will not have the same feeling after seeing their students working hard and achieving their dreams.

Pragna shares an incident where she noticed that one of her students kept her photograph in her shop’s temple. She could not resist asking her student the reason for doing it.  Her student replied, the salon was because of her and this was a small way of paying respect to the person who helped her grow. Pragna was touched after hearing her words.

She said she could have helped them with money but decided to make the women skillful enough to arrange on their own. She believes “skill never leaves” anybody and she herself is a lively example of the statement. Her story motivates women across the globe.

Liver care during COVID-19 Pandemic – Advice from Dr. Vikram Raut

0

Here, in this article Dr. Vikram Raut gives some advice for Liver care that should be followed during this COVID-19. Almost a year after the start of COVID-19 pandemic, it has become increasingly evident that pre-existing liver diseases and liver injury during the disease course must be kept in mind when caring for patients with COVID-19.

Fatty liver disease:

Obesity-associated with fatty liver represents a significant risk factor for a severe course of COVID-19 with severe pneumonia being particularly increased in men. It has been assumed that adipose tissue may serve both as a viral reservoir and also an immunological hub for the inflammatory response. Fatty liver is also associated with hypertension and diabetes is commonly observed in patients with severe COVID-19.

Cirrhosis:

Depending on the nature of the chronic liver disease, the risk of infection or a serious course of COVID-19 can vary.

Due to cirrhosis-related immune dysfunction, patients with cirrhosis are at a higher risk of infections and associated complications, which is particularly significant for patients with decompensated cirrhosis.

 Liver transplantation recipients:

The clinical course of COVID-19 in immunosuppressed transplant recipients is different. Indeed, the liver injury appears to be relatively less prevalent, kidney injury is more common in transplant recipients with COVID-19.

Recommendations for the liver care:

– During COVID- 19 Pandemic, it is essential to keep regular checks to monitor liver health and avoid frequent hospital visits for liver care.

I- In patients with liver disease, use telemedicine and local laboratory testing for follow-up visits.

– Stop the adverse metabolic and hepatic effects of social isolation, such as increased lifestyle and consumption of junk foods

– Preventing the progression of liver disease through intensive lifestyle interventions such as nutritional counselling, weight loss advice, and diabetes management may help to avoid the development of a serious disease path with potential SARS-CoV-2 infection.

– Treatment for arterial hypertension should be continued according to recommended guidelines.

– All patients with cirrhosis who become infected with SARS-CoV-2 should be admitted as soon as possible.

– To avoid decompensation and admission, follow the guidelines for prophylaxis of spontaneous bacterial peritonitis, gastrointestinal haemorrhage, and hepatic encephalopathy

– All patients with cirrhosis should receive vaccination for Streptococcus Pneumonia and influenza.

 Liver transplant candidates

1. Following SARS-CoV-2 infection, patients  waiting for liver transplantation  with decompensated cirrhosis are at a high risk of serious COVID-19 infection and death.

2. Liver transplantation  should be prioritized for patients with poor short-term prognosis including those with acute liver failure, acute decompasation and liver cancer.

3. Living donor transplants should be considered with careful risk stratification of donor and recipient, incorporating a combination of clinical history, chest radiology, and SARS-CoV-2 testing.

About Dr. Vikram Raut:

Dr. Vikram Raut is a senior consultant hepatobiliary and lead liver transplantation surgeon. He has extensive experience of Living-donor liver transplantation, with cumulative experience of over 1200 liver transplants, and performed more than 500 Living liver donor surgery.

He is trained in Liver Transplantation and HPB surgery with pioneers in liver transplants in Japan, France, and South Korea. Dr. Vikram was awarded with “International Travel Scholar Award 2010” from the International Liver transplantation society.

Bloom IVF is fulfilling the dreams of childless couples successfully

0

Bloom IVF clinic brings hope, especially to those patients/couples who are unable to come out of the stigma of being childless even after undergoing numerous IVF treatments.

What’s the Problem?

Repeated failed IVF attempts often leave a childless couple in a state of depression. Bloom IVF Group is successfully fulfilling their dreams of having a complete family for the past three decades and turning their difficult journey into a happily-ever-after ending. All childless couples take the help of the latest fertility treatments to complete their family. Unfortunately amongst them, all are not lucky to conceive even then. The reason – Repeated IVF failures – the condition where a patient is unable to achieve pregnancy after 2-4 IVF attempts.

The Solution

Bloom IVF has all the expertise and experience in handling such cases with utmost care.  Since 1991, Bloom IVF Clinic is serving patients from all around the globe.

At Bloom IVF, they investigate these couples, conduct detailed blood tests to rule out problems such as hypo-thyroid, hyperprolactinemia, diabetes, antiphospholipid syndrome or PCOS etc. The treatment is provided in the event of any hormonal or immunological disturbance.

The Methodology – Medical experts and specialists at Bloom IVF observe the following procedures that vary from case to case:

Fertility Enhancing Surgeries at Bloom IVF

1. If there is a fibroid in the uterus, they would put a laparoscope and remove the fibroid.

2. If there is adenomyosis in the patient, they do the IVF cycle, freeze the embryos and then give them Goserelininjection to suppress the adenomyosis for 2-3 months and then do the embryo transfer.

3. Some patients have the issue of hydrosalpinx, i.e. water in the fallopian tube due to infection. This water gets discharged into the uterine cavity and reduces the result. In such cases, they clip the hydrosalpinx and block it so that the water does not get discharged into the uterine cavity.

4. If there is any problem in the uterine cavity, they put a hysteroscope and correct the problem. Again, if there is a large endometrioma which may come in the way of the egg pickup procedure, they do a laparoscopy and just decompress the endometrioma. They do not remove it, as removal can lead to the reduction in patient’s ovarian reserve.

5. Patients with poor ovarian reserve, that is AMH <1.5 ng/ml are treated using the platelet rich plasma (PRP) ovarian rejuvenation technology.

6. All the above mentioned surgical procedures are done prior to starting the IVF treatment.

Creating High-Grade Embryos at Bloom IVF medical facility

Good quality sperms are isolated using new filtration systems called Microfluidics. These sperms are injected into the eggs using the advanced IMSI (Intracytoplasmic Morphologically Selected Sperm Injection) technique. In this technique, the image of the sperm is magnified 6600 times. IMSI is used especially in patients with 2 or more recurrent ICSI failures.

Nowadays at Bloom IVF Centre, they have state-of-the-art IVF laboratories equipped with air-handling units for continuously filtering the air in the Lab. They are culturing the embryos in advanced bench-top incubators and time-lapse incubators called Embryoscope using high-quality medical-grade carbon dioxide.

They are also growing the embryos for 5-days in the incubator till they reach a 150-cell stage called Blastocyst. After the formation of Blastocysts, doctors of Bloom IVF Clinic identify the best quality Blastocysts. They do it either by using an artificial intelligence-based imaging system called ERICA or by genetic testing of embryos using the technique of embryo-trophectoderm biopsy (Pre-Implantation Genetic Testing PGTa) in combination with the advanced next-gen sequencing analysis. They also have a new technique of non-invasive chromosomal screening of embryos (NICS) wherein the embryos can be tested without performing the biopsy. The frozen embryo transfer cycles give better results than fresh embryo transfer cycles. Hence the embryos are normally frozen and transferred in subsequent cycles.

Please note pre-natal sex selection and sex determination is illegal in India and not done here.

State-of-the-art Technology at Bloom IVF has shown Improved Results

In 1998, Bloom IVF pioneered the technique called assisted laser hatching in India. In this method beforetransferring the embryos, they do hatching of the embryos where they cut the cover of the embryo, called zona, with the laser beam. This method improves the pregnancy rate in patients. Furthermore, they also do double transfer i.e. Day 3 one embryo and Day 5 one/two embryos (Day 5 blastocyst). This also helps in higher chances of pregnancy in the couples.

At Bloom IVF Centre, patients are given good luteal support. In some patients, especially those with APLA syndrome, additional treatment such as oral low dose aspirin or low molecular weight heparin injections may be given.

In around 5% of patients, there is an inadequate endometrial development. Normally, a woman needs 7-9 mm thickness of the endometrium to achieve a good pregnancy rate. Now, if an embryo transfer is performed when the endometrium is thinner than 7mm, then chances of procedural success are reduced.

In such patients with poor endometrium, Bloom IVF specialists make use of advanced technology of inserting various medicines such as GCSF (granulocyte-colony stimulating factor) or PRP (platelet-rich plasma) intrauterine into the uterine cavity to make the endometrial lining better. This results in improved pregnancy rates following IVF.

Moreover, if patients with ovarian failures still fail in their IVF cycle, Bloom IVF can offer them egg donation.

About Bloom IVF

Bloom IVF was established in 1995 with the efforts of well-known and highly experienced doctors. All of them have been recognised for their 30+ years’ service with umpteen awards and accolades to their name. The internationally trained IVF specialists at Bloom IVF has been practising for over three decades and are highly acclaimed.

Their success rates are similar to the top-most facilities in India as well as countries like the UK & USA; with their cumulative live rate at the end of 3 attempts being 70% – 80%.  Bloom IVF also has expertise in treating repeated IVF failure patients, egg-freezing, and male infertility including zero sperm count.

Akash Nautiyal who became an IOS developer from a Cook

0

This 10th dropout boy, Akash Nautiyal earns more than an engineer as an IOS developer. He is now an inspiration for many underprivileged students.

Beginning of Akash Nautiyal:

‘’Success comes when you grab opportunities from your situation” and a young boy who came to Mumbai from Manpur, a small village in Uttarakhand proves this line.

This is a story of a young boy who struggled a lot and faced many challenges in his life, but despite these obstacles, never gave up.

He knew that he could fulfill his dream in the city of dreams, Mumbai. With very little schooling, he came here in search of fulfilling his dreams. Akash Nautiyal had no other option except to work in a little shop and play guitar in local pubs.

The money he was making was enough to feed him but his desire to learn and grow never stopped.

Later he started working at a call center in 2014 and everything was going on very well for him. But then something tragic happened, his everything was robbed and he lost all his savings including books and laptop.

Because of that, Akash couldn’t pay the rent for the room where he was living and was thrown out of the room by the owner of the house. There was no way to go back to the call center and he lost his job. This was a low pick of his life graph.

Turning Point:

But later on, something big was waiting for him. He started to work as a cook at an apartment for some IIT Bombay’s students. There Akash Nautiyal observed that all IITians always stuck with their laptops. With his curious mind once he asked them what they were doing.

One of them told him that they were working on websites and apps like Facebook, WhatsApp using programming and scripting languages and technologies. And from there Nautiyal got interested in coding and development.

From there his journey began to change, after that he spent most of his time learning coding and web development.

Akash used to cook and clean rooms in the morning, slept in the afternoons, and when his employers returned, he jumped to their laptops and began his journey into coding, web development, and software skills with their help.

He learned various languages and skills like coding, Html, CSS, Javascript, and some frameworks like React, React Native, and angular, and within a year he became good at it. His IITian employers also inspired him and helped him a lot to learn.

As a cook, he was earning 8-10 thousand but as a developer with his skills, now he is earning 70 thousand per month and working as an IOS developer for a Mumbai-based startup.

He was 13 years old, 10th class dropout boy who ran away from his village now becomes an inspiration for many underprivileged children.

Dream of Akash Nautiyal:

He shows us if we can grab the opportunity and have learning skills then a college degree doesn’t matter. Many b.tech students even don’t get that much income through their salary.

Now he runs an NGO for his village and that teaches the basics of coding and music to 20 local students. He dreams to open his own software company and hire people from his village.

Dr Ninad Katdare-Top surgical oncologist and cancer consultant in Mumbai

According to Dr Ninad Katdare, Cancer is the word that weakens the psyche and strength of any human being. The fatal outcome associated with this medical condition is the main cause of such trauma. Thankfully, decades of scientific research and advancement in technology has not only improved the survival rate but also enhanced the quality of life in some terminal cancers.

As stated by Dr Ninad Katdare, unfortunately, many patients have still deprived of such advanced treatments due to a lack of proper awareness. The reason being, most of them rely only on their family physician who in some cases are too uninformed. In the following article, the doctor had tried to bring forth the various aspect of advanced treatments available for different types of cancers and wants every patient to make an informed choice.

1.Breast Cancer: Standard treatment combines Surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation (if necessary). Other Advanced options for patients –

  • Breast conservation: The results of breast-conserving surgery (with radiation) is equal to the surgery requiring removal of the whole breast. So for young women, a breast preserving surgery can be done.
  • Plastic surgery: Reconstruction of the entire removed breast or a part of it (as in breast-conserving surgery) can be done. With advances in technology, many new plastic surgery techniques are available which can help in giving good form even after a mutilating surgery.
  •  Advances in chemotherapy and hormone therapy help in improving survival.
  • The use of new devices like Scalp cooling caps can reduce hair fall after chemotherapy.

2. Head and Neck Cancers: Common cancer among men and cause for it is tobacco chewing, betel nut, and smoking. Few technologies can be helpful to the patient:

– LaserThe use of laser has made surgery very safe for patients with head and neck cancers. For cancers in the oropharynx (behind the tongue) and larynx (voice box), the laser can remove early lesions without any scar on the face or neck.

– Radiation: With improvements in quality of radiation and availability of technologically advanced measures like IMRT, IGRT, and Rapid arc, up to stage 3 cancers in the oropharynx and larynx can be treated with radiation alone or in combination with chemotherapy without the need for surgery

– Microvascular plastic surgery– In face cancers and oral cavity cancers improvement in surgical technology enables us to do microvascular plastic surgery and give good cosmesis, form, and function to the patient.

3. Colorectal Cancers: The maximum advances had happened in cancer of colon and rectum.

(i) In stage 0 and stage 1 (selected cases), cancer can be removed by an endoscope without the need for surgery. The techniques are called endoscopic sub mucous dissection

(ii) In stages 2 and 3, with the advent of laparoscopy, robotic surgery, and surgical staplers, very difficult surgery can be done safely and the patient’s recovery is very fast as the incisions usually are not more than 1 to 1.5cm.

Robotic Surgery

(iii) In rectal cancers, even if they are very close to the anal canal, if the sphincters are safe, using new technology, we can save the anal canal. The need for a permanent colostomy is thus avoided. Colostomy i.e. using a bag to collect stools from a loop of intestine brought at the abdominal wall is not liked by many patients and as such with the advent of these new technologies, it can be prevented.

(iv) Even in the 4th stage (last stage) of colorectal cancers, many new advances improve survival.

Dr Ninad Katdare says that if cancer has spread to the liver, upfront surgery is possible. But in few cases, the infection in the peritoneum (lining of the abdominal wall), can be shrunk using newer chemotherapy in heated form as well as in gas form can be used to control the disease (PIPAC) and targeted therapy (EPIC/HIPEC treatments). Post this, surgery can be initiated. If surgery is not possible, the tumours can be burnt using a technique called radiofrequency ablation and microwave ablation.

4. Ovarian Cancer: It is one of the most common cancers in women. It is deadliest because it is usually diagnosed in an advanced stage. Newer advances in surgery and chemotherapy are helping to improve survival in this deadly cancer.

(I) Laparoscopy: For all stages of cancer, before surgery, the oncologist assesses the disease burden by laparoscopy. Using an advanced formula called the Anderson algorithm, he assesses whether a patient will benefit from surgery or chemotherapy first.

laparoscopy Surgery

(ii) Surgery: Using advanced instruments like harmonic scalpel, hydro dissector, etc., even advanced stage 3 cancers can undergo upfront surgery. Scientific research has shown that upfront surgery wherever possible should be done as it almost doubles the survival rather than giving chemotherapy first.

iii) Ovarian cancer patients who cannot tolerate chemotherapy or who do not want side effect of chemotherapy, again the PIPAC- Pressurised Intra-Peritoneal Aerosolised Chemotherapy can be used.

Dr Ninad Katdare specialises in conducting all the above-listed oncology surgeries like Head and neck cancer, breast cancers, Gastrointestinal & reconstruction surgeries etc. He’s a trained surgeon to use endoscopy laparoscopy and robotic and conduct gynecologic oncology. In addition to the above, Dr Ninad Katdare is the first surgeon to use the Anderson algorithm for the treatment of ovarian cancer. He’s a pioneer in PIPAC- Pressurised Intra-Peritoneal Aerosolised Chemotherapy and specialises in HIPEC, EPIC, NIPS chemotherapy treatments.
