Optum Global Solutions (India), a subsidiary of the UnitedHealth Group, is establishing Optum Startup Studio in collaboration with the International Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad (IIIT-H).

According to a recent press release on the studio’s inauguration, the accelerator will mentor India’s emerging health tech entrepreneurs to quick maturity. The program’s innovation partner is IIIT-H.

Aside from the Startup Studio program, the collaboration will include research on specific difficulties in the healthcare industry, with a focus on utilizing learnings and special talents to give people with the chance to live healthier lives.

According to the firm, ideas submitted by participating entrepreneurs will be examined by industry and functional experts from Optum and IIIT-H for further discussion and potential investment.

Andhra University students’ startup Edumoon valued at Rs 3 crore

0

Edumoon, an ed-tech firm founded by two Andhra University students, was valued at Rs. 3 crore in the Chunauti 2.0 startup competition. Cross-border innovation fund, Pontaq, has agreed to invest 20 lakh in Edumoon.

Edumoon, an ed-tech firm founded by two Andhra University students in the first wave of Covid-19 in 2020, has been selected and valued at 3 crore in the Chunauti 2.0 startup challenge hosted by the Software Technology Parks of India.

As a result of this, Pontaq, a UK-based cross-border innovation fund that invests in early-stage digital enterprises, has agreed to invest 20 lakh in Edumoon.

The education business advanced to the seed fundraising phase of the Chunauti 2.0 startup contest after competing against around 3,000 other startups from throughout the country.

The Covid-19 epidemic has had far-reaching consequences for humanity.

But Edumoon’s founders, Kapuganti Vikas and Ponnada Mahidar, have transformed hardship into opportunity.

When the Covid-19 issue brought the whole education system to a standstill, the two young people used the power of technology to sow the first germ of their enormous idea.

They created an Instagram feed to do exam paper analysis to assist other students, which was an instant hit with the student body.

Later, they broadened their scope to include online lectures, seminars, boot camps, skilling courses, internships, and so on.

A 15-person team is now working on several areas of the Edumoon, such as technical help and tuition, as well as mentorship and design.

According to Mahidhar, they have partnered with several institutions and private organizations to develop a student community and assist students in advancing their careers.

Mahidhar explained, “We also use numerous social media sites to boost our exposure and reach. Through our firm, we hope to bridge the gap between the industry and the students.”

Mahidhar further mentioned that their firm is now nurtured at the Andhra University Incubation Centre.

“We will expand our operations even more for the sake of the student community,” he continued.

On different social media channels, Edumoon now has around 15,000 student members.

7 business lessons you can learn from Anand Mahindra

0

Anand Gopal Mahindra is a legendary business man from India. This article has 7 business lessons from this business tycoon, who is the chairman of Mahindra Group.

Anand Gopal Mahindra, born 1 May 1955, is an Indian businessman and the chairman of the Mahindra Group, a Mumbai-based conglomerate. The company is involved in industries such as aerospace, agriculture, aftermarket, automotive, components, construction equipment, defense, energy, farm equipment, finance, and insurance. Mahindra is the grandson of Mahindra & Mahindra co-founder Shri Jagdish Chandra Mahindra.

Here are 7 business lessons you can learn from Anand Mahindra:

1. ‘Begin with a startup mindset.’

Anand took to Twitter at the start of India’s ‘Unlock 1’ phase following the first COVID-19 closure to give a “3-step strategy” for restarting companies. This scheme was dubbed the Sanjivani Solutions, or “a potion for waking up from a Corona-induced slumber.”

The steps were as follows:

“Make your organization as lean as feasible.”

“Nothing is sacrosanct; all business models are up for discussion.”

Create ‘feedback loops’ to evaluate product/market assumptions on a regular basis.”

“Spread ideas and data around the organization at breakneck speed.”

Along with that, he advocated for a “Marie Kondo-style portfolio clean up,” and suggested that organizations abandon efforts that do not fit into the narrative of a prosperous future.

2. Pay close attention to your setbacks

In 1995, Mahindra Group partnered with Ford Motors to create the Escort automobile, which ultimately failed to establish a name for itself.

“Everybody joins a joint venture with a what’s-in-it-for-you-and-what’s-in-it-for-me mindset,” Anand remarked, recalling how this failure eventually led him to build the Scorpio, which was one of the group’s most successful automobiles.

He noted that prior to the collaboration with Ford, “we had no expertise in building a hard-top car, or in current production procedures…

The 300 employees who worked on the Ford Escort were the first to work on the Scorpio. It might be claimed that the Scorpio would not have been possible without the Ford partnership.”

3. Emphasize women’s labor-force involvement

Anand founded the Project Nanhi Kali in 1996 with the goal of educating disadvantaged females across the country. The project’s goal was to reduce female literacy rates and boost female labor-force participation, as well as to address many societal concerns like as child labor and marriage, dowry deaths, and the caste system. Nanhi Kali was created as a sponsorship program in which individuals and corporations may join by funding girls’ education for a minimum of one year.

It has changed the lives of over 4,50,000 people in 14 Indian states. Areas affected include the remote hamlets of Krishnagiri in Tamil Nadu and the tribal highlands of Araku in Andhra Pradesh.

4. Keeping current with the times

Anand was named third among the ‘Top 30 CEOs on Social Media’ in 2013, behind Virgin Group chairman Richard Branson and LinkedIn CEO Jeff Weiner. Anand is well-known for his clever, engaging, and dynamic tweets in which he regularly addresses current economic trends and ideas while remaining conversational and humorous. Anand was one of the first to see the rising relevance of social media as a vehicle for connection and growth, and he is the only Indian CEO on this list.

5. ‘Be a people person.’

According to Anand, the capacity to empathize and put oneself in the shoes of others is a sign of a successful leader. “Empathy helps you learn things and inevitably makes you a good listener who is curious to learn and acquire knowledge from people,” he added.

6. ‘Find a space in the thoughts of the buyer.’

Today, the Mahindra Group is a market leader in a variety of areas, including information technology, aerospace, energy, retail, and finance, to mention a few. According to Anand, this is due to his “penchant for establishing brands that find a place in the customer’s consciousness and for developing businesses that live or die by how effectively they connect with the consumer.”

7. Imagining a better future

Anand was among the top global CEOs who emphasized the importance of rebuilding the economy after COVID-19 while keeping sustainability in mind and not only focusing on reverting to our old ways. The CEOs signed an open letter urging countries to establish inclusive and sustainable post-COVID-19 economies that would benefit society and the environment.

He explained, “Today, more than ever, the world requires the ability to create a new future…in which people may feel secure and protected. The initiative…is an effort to define the new environment.”

Daily Skin Care Routine in Summer with Glutone: Tackling Photodamage And Tan

0

Summer is here and so is the time for pool parties, beach parties, and vacations. When it comes to beach parties, undoubtedly, you need to have an effective skincare routine to keep your skin protected from tanning.

Sun is harsh in summer, and therefore, keeping the skin hydrated is essential. However, hydrating skin is not enough. We need to protect the skin from harmful effects caused by the intense heat and UV rays. Sunscreens applied topically are helpful but protect only the applied body part for a limited period. Moreover, sunscreens lose their SPF (sun protection) and need to be reapplied with time and don’t offer complete protection from UV rays too. So, how can we concrete the skin defence without compromising a beach party?

Not sure where to start? Don’t worry! We’ll provide three steps that you can follow to fight out the tan and photodamage. Let’s first understand the meaning of skin tan and photodamaged skin.

Sun Tan

Tanning refers to a skin darkening process in which the skin tone gets darker when exposed to the sun’s rays. Sun rays and heat lead to an increase in oxidative stress and inflammation under the skin. This promptly calls for increased melanin production leading to a darker appearance. Short exposure to the sun leads to a tan which is short-lived and may be reversed slowly without any trouble. However, longer exposure to the intense sun causes tan which stays longer and may need special attention and care.

Photodamaged Skin

Photodamage is an expression used to explain one of the potential effects of the sun’s ultraviolet rays on our skin. Photodamage appears as burns, irritation, and peeling off. This leads to pigmentation and uneven skin tone. Skin loses its smoothness and becomes dull, dry and patchy. Photodamaged skin is difficult to revert to its original state and required a lot of time and self-care.

Daily Skin Care Routine In Summer With Glutone

What could be a more effective way to tackle photodamage and tan than including Glutone products into an everyday summer skincare routine? Glutone products help prepare your skin to tackle the damaging effects of sun rays. Follow a daily skincare routine in summer with Glutone to avoid these problems before your beach party. Here is an ultimate Glutone skincare routine that you can follow :

 Use Glutone 1000

To tackle photodamage and summer tan, you can use Glutone 1000, which is supplemented with Japanese Setria Glutathione. It is FSSAI approved, and the Setria Glutathione is a GRAS (Generally Recognized As Safe) ingredient. Glutathione is the master antioxidant present in the skin and helps to orchestrate the antioxidant defence and immune defence of the skin. UV radiation leads to an immediate drop in the antioxidant levels in the skin exposing the cellular DNA to damage. Once damaged cells die further aggravating the situation. Hence, the stronger the antioxidant defence better the fight against UV radiation. A daily dose of Glutone 1000 delivers the Glutathione with Vitamin C, Zinc, and Selenium to you, promoting skin brightening and radiance. It also helps to even out skin tone and improves overall skin glow. However, please remember, that Glutone 1000 needs to be consumed regularly to achieve the desired levels in the skin. So kick-start with Glutone 1000 today itself.

Use Cleanser To Get Rid Of Toxins

It is not uncommon for the skin surface to get greasy during summer due to the humid climate. And when dirt and other pollutant particles sit on the skin, the skin pores can get blocked, and pimples can form on the surface. Thus, it is essential to clean the face regularly to wash out the harmful particles and bring a glow to the face.

You can use Glutone face wash that cleanses, conditions and hydrates the skin from inside. It is a must-use product to heal photodamaged skin. Glutone face wash is made with a Dermawhite, a research product of BASF, Germany. It contains Guava, Saxifrage and Papaya extracts that help to enhance skin brightness.

Apply Face Serum

The next step is to apply face serum to your skin. You can use Glutone serum to fulfil this purpose. Glutone serum is beneficial for skin tanning treatment. It reduces the dark melanin formation and thus, keeps the skin glowing, radiant, and evenly toned. Glutone Serum is clinically proven to improve skin radiance and elasticity in 2 weeks with twice a day use.  The Glutone face serum is easy to apply. You need to pour 5-6 drops on your hand or directly on the face. Then, using your fingertips, gently massage the application over your face and behind your ears for effective results.

Apply Sunscreen

The last but the most important step before you step out of your home is to apply sunscreen. You cannot afford to miss applying sunscreens. After applying the serum, wait for some time for the skin to absorb it. Once it is completely absorbed, use sunscreen to give a protective layer to your skin. Dermatologists advise SPF 50 sunscreen to work in all climatic conditions. Sunscreen keeps the skin safe from suntan and offers protection against premature ageing. Furthermore, it protects the skin from UVB and UVA rays and works as an anti-tan product.

Voilà! these are the four steps you can follow for tan and photodamaged skin treatment and protect your skin throughout the summer season. You can buy Glutone 1000, Glutone serum and Glutone face wash from our store and carry them in your bag to conduct summer skincare anytime you need.

Meet the student whose startup won Rs2.5cr funding in Ayush Ministry summit

0

A final year student of the Institute of Teaching and Research in Ayurveda (ITRA), Gujarat, has won Rs 2.5 crore funding in Ayush Ministry summit. Neelkanth Mardia’s goal of launching a firm took flight thanks to the government’s Startup India initiative.

During a three-day Global Ayush Investment and Innovation Summit (GAIIS 2022) organized by the Ministry of Ayush, a student’s Ayurvedic Startup, Green Forest Wellness, received an investment offer of Rs 2.50 crore from a private firm. Startups and students participated enthusiastically in the summit, showcasing their products and diverse efforts. Many known firms, as well as the winning upstart, put up their stands during the GAIIS 2022 show.

Neelkanth Mardia, a Jamnagar, Gujarat native, is a final-year student at the Institute of Teaching and Research in Ayurveda (ITRA).

His idea of launching a firm took flight thanks to the government’s Startup India initiative.

In October 2021, he founded ‘Green Forest Wellness,’ an Ayurveda-based cosmetic enterprise, with only Rs 5 lakhs. However, owing to a lack of money, Neelkanth Mardia was unable to expand its reach and increase sales. He intends to use the funds for product expansion and marketing.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated during the Global Ayush Investment and Innovation Summit 2022 in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, that he was hoping that, like other industries, a unicorn will emerge from the Ayush industry in the coming years. The success of Neelkanth Mardia will encourage additional entrepreneurs to emerge from the Ayush industry.

Dr. Anup Thakar, Director of ITRA said, “Neelkanth Mardia was a fast learner and industrious student from the beginning. He enjoyed developing novel concoctions based on Ayurvedic principles. He’s been ecstatic about his entrepreneurial ambitions. I am pleased that a private firm has committed Rs 2.50 crore to his venture. I wish him the best of luck in the future.”

Green Forest Wellness Company produces Ayurvedic cosmetic items such as Anti-Aging Cream, Hydrating Moisturizing Cream, Face Cleanser, Nourishing Facial Cleanser, Intense Repair Facial Cleanser, Hair Cleanser, Hair Conditioner, and facial serum. Green Forest Wellness Company intends to expand significantly in the future. The startup intends to open Green Forest Wellness Clinic, where patients will be provided Ayurvedic treatment tailored to their specific ailment in a natural setting.

Another goal is to build Green Forest Wellness Park, which will aid in the rehabilitation of drug users. He also intends to establish Green Forest Veterinary Solution, a facility where animals’ health will be maintained through Ayurvedic treatment.

The Current Heatwave is Another Sign of Climate Change

0

India is experiencing an early onset of summers in 2022.  March 2022 has been the hottest to occur in the past 122 years.  The untimely and severe onset of summers has also bolstered the occurrence of extreme and frequent heatwaves.  The Indian Meteorological Department issued warnings for heatwave like conditions across India in April 2022.  Many states such as Rajasthan, West Bengal, Maharashtra and Delhi are witnessing an unprecedented heatwave which has caused power outages, water shortages, and school closures.

While many factors are at play behind common heatwaves, such as anticyclones and deficient rainfalls, climate change is an undeniable contributor to their severity and frequency.  Heatwaves have been a long endured and frequent occurrence with short-term and long-term impacts.  The current heatwave has unearthed some of the many threats of severe weather conditions.  India’s wheat harvesting faces an extreme danger, and massive fires have engulfed four urban landfills in the past month.

Disasters and adverse climatic conditions render marginalized populations the most vulnerable to impact.  Evidence from India documented in the book Inequality and Climate Change elucidates that workers in the informal sector suffer significantly from economic losses and poor health and forces them to spend more resources to adapt to heatwaves.  Urban labouring populations who live in informal settlements, and rural communities dependent on natural water bodies and rainfall for their livelihood, all face notably higher losses than the rest of the workforce.

The World Health Organisation notes heatwaves as among the most dangerous of natural hazards.  A recent study by the Indian Meteorological Department, Ministry of Earth Sciences and other top scientists revealed that more than 17,000 people have died due to heatwaves in the past 50 years.  The highest number of deaths have occurred across Odisha, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan and Bihar.

In addition to death, economic losses and deterioration of quality of life, unprecedented migration flows are likely to increase due to climate change.  If measures to limit global warming to below 2 degrees centigrade are not embraced, as per an ActionAid report, more than 62 million South Asians will be forced to migrate out of their homes by 2050, more than treble the number in 2020.  Furthermore, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC)  reports of 2021 and 2022 warn us that heatwaves will intensify in the South Asian region.

In light of these circumstances, the Government of India and governments across the globe must take cognizance of the dangers of heatwaves and implement appropriate measures to curb their effects.  We must assess the factors that lead to heatwaves and adequately address the damage they cause.  Preparedness and compensation mechanisms are of extreme importance in increasing the resilience of at-risk populations.  Unfortunately, the compensation offered to heatwave victims is substantially lesser than that provided in other calamities.

Debabrat Patra, Associate Director and National Humanitarian Lead, ActionAid Association, says, “We should treat heatwaves at par with other disasters, and we must address the compensation gap.  We should extend compensation to people with ailments caused by severe heat rather than only focusing on mortality.”

Furthermore, active and prompt measures are required to combat climate change at large and enact climate just measures that empower the most vulnerable persons.  India’s laud worthy commitments at the 26th Conference of Parties (CoP26) should be worked on without adversely affecting marginalized groups.  The unique needs of agricultural workers, pastoralists, fisher folks and other groups reliant on natural resources should act as the foundation for India’s climate action measures.

Sandeep Chachra, Executive Director of ActionAid Association, adds, “We need a pro-poor and inclusive approach to climate change action.  More than just social imagery of sustainable urban life, we need a participatory, decentralized, futuristic and technology-enabled action on planning, building and managing a climate just country.  The participation and leadership of vulnerable communities in rural and urban areas is the best way to secure social and ecological justice.”
