DeHaat gets $60M to boost its presence, achieve break-even profitability

0

Agritech startup DeHaat has raised $45.8 million in funding. The company is looking to boost its presence in the country and attain break-even profitability within two years.

DeHaat, a full-stack agritech business, announced a $60 million Series E fundraising round headed by Sofina Ventures and Temasek.

Other current investors RTP Global Partners, Prosus Ventures, and Lightrock India also participated in the round, according to the business.

According to a regulatory filing with the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, DeHaat funded Rs 366.6 crore ($45.8 million) headed by Sofina Ventures on October 21. (MCA). This, however, was part of a bigger round, and the business today disclosed the total amount raised in a statement.

According to MCA documents from October, Sofina Ventures led the round with Rs 240 crore, while RTP Global Partners, Prosus (Naspers Ventures), and Lightrock India each contributed Rs 48 crore, Rs 32 crore, and Rs 46.6 crore. According to the documents, the firm is valued at $695 million following the current investment round (considering dollar at Rs 80).

According to the company’s official announcement today, the money comes as DeHaat adds over a million farmers to its network, expands its footprints to other areas throughout the world, and broadens its service offerings. However, the business did not reveal if the value was revised as a result of the extra capital.

DeHaat, which was founded in 2012, has established a full-stack agricultural model that includes services such as agricultural input distribution, customized farm counseling, access to finance services, and market connections to sell farmers’ output.

Shashank Kumar, co-founder and CEO of DeHaat, stated, “DeHaat’s 60x growth in the previous 40 months has been tremendous, laying the groundwork for a clear route to profitability. Closing a $60 million round when 70% of the previous deal is still outstanding demonstrates DeHaat’s winning status as a market leader in AgTech. At this moment in time, we are quite well capitalized, and we intend to exploit this position to consolidate our expansion toward efficiency and profitability. As a result, we want to break even in the next 12 months, with 2-2.5x YoY growth.”

The media revealed in August that DeHaat has joined the list of new-age IT businesses that had to resort to layoffs. The decision to slash expenditures and lay off personnel comes just ten months after the business obtained a big fundraising round of $115 million.

In October 2021, the firm secured $115 million in a round that included Sofina, Lightrock, Temasek, Sequoia, and Prosus, making it one of India’s largest agritech fundings.

During the most recent financing, the firm was valued at more than $500 million, thereby entering the soonicorn or’soon-to-be-unicorn’ club. According to a statement issued today by the firm, DeHaat serves more than 1.5 million farmers in 11 agricultural states, including Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, West Bengal, Odisha, Gujarat, Chhattisgarh, and Haryana.

Yana Kachurina, principal at Sofina, said, “We continue to be pleased with DeHaat’s vision and desire to empower farmers and local communities. With this extra financing, we want to generate an even deeper and broader effect within the existing network as well as new regions.”

DeHaat further stated that it has developed a last-mile supply chain in over 1,10,000 villages across 150 districts in India through its digitized network of over 10,000 micro-entrepreneurs known as ‘DeHaat Centers’ for last-mile delivery and aggregation. This fundraising round was also advised by Dexter Capital and Vertices Partners, according to the company.

Since 2019, the firm has also acquired four acquisitions. In April, the business paid an undisclosed sum for the acquisition of food tech startup Y-Cook India Pvt Ltd.

This follows its January acquisition of agri-input marketplace startup Helicrofter in order to extend its position in Maharashtra and the rest of western India.

It bought FarmGuide in 2021, allowing it to integrate satellite-based crop advice products for farmers. The firm purchased VezaMart, a platform that creates agricultural management solutions for farmers, in May 2019.

Zetwerk buys Unimacts in $39M deal focused on US solar, wind energy customers

0

Contract manufacturing platform Zetwerk has bought US-based Unimacts. The deal is worth $39 million.

Zetwerk, a Bengaluru-based contract manufacturing platform, has announced its fourth acquisition with Lexington, Kentucky-based Unimacts.

According to Amrit Acharya, Co-founder and CEO of Zetwerk, the cash-and-equity transaction values Unimacts at $39 million. Apart from construction equipment and industrial items, Unimacts is a contract manufacturing and supply chain solutions firm that focuses on renewable energy.

Zetwerk anticipates the Unimacts purchase to help it acquire access to high-profile solar and wind-power clients in the United States, the company’s largest foreign market.

Amrit said, “International markets account for almost 10-12% of our income, with the United States being the largest. The goal of the purchase is to be closer to clients in the United States and to develop a leadership team in the nation,”, adding that solar accounted for over 80% of demand for Zetwerk’s renewable energy sector manufacturing capabilities.

Unimacts’ leadership staff, including CEO Matthew Arnold, CFO Andrew Woglom, and COO Alan Hays, will join Zetwerk alongside the rest of the 200-person team.

This brings Zetwerk’s total global workforce count to over 1,900.

Unimacts’ Matthew stated in a Zetwerk release, “Partnering with Zetwerk will allow us to accelerate our growth and worldwide reach, as well as providing more complete solutions to our clients.”

Zetwerk announced earlier this year the acquisition of three firms for a total of Rs 100 crore.

Aerospace and defense producer Pinaka Aerospace Solutions, oil and gas sector maker SharpTanks, and Wheels India’s Wardha fabrication business, which provides crucial manufactured components for the power, roads, and railroads industries, were among the purchases. In May, Zetwerk also opened a facility in Noida to produce wearable, IoT, and hearable gadgets.

“When there is no supply in the nation, we are willing to catalyze the process and own that component of the supply chain. We cannot do this in all major markets,” Amrit said.

According to the firm, Zetwerk has been EBITDA, or operationally profitable, for over 15 months after being valued at $2.7 billion in a fundraising round headed by Greenoaks Capital in December 2021. Amrit, Srinath Ramakkrushnan, Vishal Chaudhary, and Rahul Sharma started it in 2018.

According to Amrit, the firm is on target to conclude FY 2023 with $1 billion in gross merchandise value, a proxy for total value of items sold, up from $770 million in FY 2022. The corporation recorded operating sales of $607 million, for fiscal year 2022.

Warehouse automation startup Locus Robotics valued at $2B in new funding round

0

Warehouse automation startup Locus Robotics has secured funding of over $117 million. This new  late-stage funding round valued Locus Robotics at nearly $2 billion.

Locus Robotics Corp., a developer of warehouse robots that companies use to make their supply chains more efficient, has raised more than $117 million through a Series F  funding round.

Goldman Sachs and G2 Venture Partners were the lead investors in the round, which values Locus Robotics at nearly $2 billion. The round had the participation of Silicon Valley Bank, and many other supporters.

Goldman Sachs managing director Mark Midle, said, “In the large warehouse fulfillment and distribution sector, Locus has established itself as an innovative, high-quality market leader for flexible automation. Our investment underlines our belief that Locus possesses the product offering as well as the operational expertise necessary to meet and exceed the market challenges given by today’s dynamic economic climate.”

Locus Robotics, located in Wilmington, Massachusetts, creates a series of robots that can mechanically transfer items from one area of a warehouse to another.

The robots developed by the firm are primarily intended to automate the picking procedure. Employees discover the warehouse shelf where a product is stored, grab the product, and carry it to a location of the warehouse where it may be readied for shipping during the picking process.

Warehouse robots from Locus Robotics help businesses do tasks more quickly Workers may place a product in the cargo bin of one of the startup’s robots after fetching it from a warehouse shelf.

The product will then be automatically transported to an area of the warehouse where it may be prepped for distribution by the machine.

Locus Robotics has three robots available. The Locus Origin, the startup’s initial technology, can transport up to 80 pounds of products between two regions of a warehouse. The Locus Vector and Locus Max are more sophisticated systems that can move up to 600 pounds and 1.5 tons of items, respectively.

Locus Robotics claims that their technology can be deployed in a warehouse in as little as four to six weeks. Following the completion of the deployment procedure, warehouse owners may monitor the operation of their robot fleets using an application called the Locus Management Portal. The program gives statistics such as the number of packages processed each hour by each robot.

According to Locus Robotics, its customers include large logistics businesses like DHL and Ceva Logistics Ltd, as well as organizations from other sectors. The business has signed agreements to deploy its robots in over 230 warehouses and other locations across the world.

Locus Robotics aims to deploy up to 500 of its robots at some of these locations.

Locus Robotics CEO Rick Faulk, said, “This new round of funding marks an important inflection point for Locus Robotics as we look toward our next stage of growth. We strategically chose to bring in investors with a wealth of experience in both public and private markets to advise us as we continue our journey. Warehouses are increasingly seeking flexible, intelligent robots automation to increase efficiency and develop their operations as the supply chain undergoes fast digital change.”

After the England squad becomes sick, the first test could be postponed for 24 hours

0

Given that half of England’s playing team becomes ill in Pakistan, the cause is most likely a virus or insect rather than food poisoning.

Following the illness of 13 to 14 members of the England squad on Wednesday, including half the 16-man playing pool, authorities from England and Pakistan are in discussions regarding a potential 24-hour postponement to the first Test in Pakistan.

Instead of food poisoning, the problem is believed to be a virus or bug, and England is being extra cautious about what they eat with the assistance of a chef named Omar Meziane who has accompanied the squad on this tour. However, some players complained of feeling ill on Tuesday, and they were instructed to remain in their rooms to reduce the danger of virus transmission.

Two of those reportedly impacted are James Anderson and England captain Ben Stokes. Despite having symptoms, Jack Leach, who has Crohn’s disease and takes immunosuppressive medicine to lower his immune response, is reported to be in good health. Although Joe Root experienced symptoms on Tuesday, he was able to train on Wednesday. Mark Wood, who was expected to miss the first test due to injury, has made progress since missing training on Tuesday and being confined to his room, and is showing signs of recovery.

Players who were sick with vomiting and diarrhea, according to an ECB official, did not have the COVID-19 virus. There is a chance the infection will clear up in 24 hours, but with the first of the three matches in the series scheduled to start in Rawalpindi on Thursday, England’s hopes of getting off to a good start have been significantly hindered. When dealing with the media on Wednesday, Root confirmed that conversations about a delayed match start were in progress.

A representative for the ECB acknowledged that play would not have begun in the current situation, even though the World Test Championship’s playing rules call for all matches to be spread out over a five-day period. A final decision on the start time is expected to depend on the recommendation of the England team doctor. Representatives from the two boards, including PCB chairman Ramiz Raja and the ECB’s Rob Key and Neil Snowball, have been in discussions.

Even while it is bad, Root said, “we don’t believe it is food-related.” “I don’t believe there is a connection between the two, and the chef is also ill; therefore, I don’t believe the cause is the food.”

“The issue is that we have been attempting to travel with a chef for a few years now. This is the first chance we’ve ever had to accomplish it. Even Premier League and Championship teams have their own chefs, so we believe that from a nutrition and performance standpoint, we are striving to do everything we can to optimize ourselves and be in the best possible position to succeed.

Only Root and Keaton Jennings participated in the Wednesday training session at the venue, which was optional prior to the bug’s spread. The other players named in the starting XI are Zak Crawley, Ollie Pope, and Harry Brook. With Liam Livingstone making his debut and Ben Duckett making a comeback, Stokes’ team from Tuesday may now look quite different.

Marcus Trescothick, Rob Key, and Brendon McCullum will have to replace them as the top three players for tomorrow, joked Andy Root. As far as I’m aware, there are a few guys who aren’t feeling well, but since I wasn’t feeling well yesterday but felt better today, I’m hoping it’s simply a 24-hour virus and not food poisoning, COVID, or anything else. I believe it is simply one of those things that we have collectively, regrettably, acquired over time. “We have done everything we can to prepare for this game, and even though life sometimes gets in the way, we will do everything in our power to be prepared and in good standing the following day.”

When asked if he thought everyone would be ready to be chosen on Thursday morning, Root replied, “It’s hard to say; I haven’t seen anyone this morning, and we literally just got on the bus.” “So the lads will do everything in our power to be perfect in that regard, so time will tell.”

The outbreak occurred in Islamabad’s Serena Hotel, where guests from Pakistan and England as well as UK media personnel were staying. The second-story wing of the building has been taken over by England, and their team room is an executive lounge on the sixth level. Apart from being able to exit the closely secured 14-acre compound, they haven’t had any restrictions on how they can travel around the hotel.

This is not the first trip that England has lately started that has been interrupted by illness. On the 2019–20 South African tour, the team suffered with yet another illness leading up to and during their Boxing Day Test in Pretoria, forcing a number of players to leave the playing area to use the restroom and replenish their fluids in separate changing rooms away from the group. They ultimately failed the test. Many England players wondered if they had been infected by an early strain of COVID-19 due to the rapid spread of this particular virus. But the symptoms were quite different, just as they are now.

“I wouldn’t want it for anyone.” “That’s awful,” says Root. “Run continuously onto and off of the field. However, there are situations when it is simply a reflection of where your team is right now. Due to many of us becoming ill during the Test match rather than prior to the game, Centurion 2019 was quite terrible. But ideally we won’t have to worry about it because tomorrow should see a good turnout from everyone, allowing us to take in this thrilling series and use cricket as a conversation starter.”

With the Lions team having returned from Abu Dhabi at the conclusion of last week’s warm-up with the Test squad, Root said that he was unaware of any potential reinforcements and that he did not anticipate serving as captain in the event that Stokes is ruled unfit.

He replied, “I don’t believe so, no.” We shall see; Ollie Pope handled it recently and did a fantastic job. Hopefully we won’t need to have that conversation. “It makes me angry.” A few of the guys wouldn’t have come in because today is often an optional session. There isn’t much you can do besides make an effort to act correctly, take care of your health, and prepare for tomorrow’s game away from the game.

“We are at that point as a group right now.” When we’re crowded together in the same hotel, it can spread when this occurs occasionally. We’ve tried to minimize it as much as we can, and tomorrow will show how successful we were. Being on tour entails it in some capacity. You have 15 individuals here so that in the event of an injury or illness, you are prepared. “These things can be thrown at you occasionally.”
