Farmer’s blind son who turned into a millionaire!

0

Srikant Bolla was considered as a “useless” baby as he was born blind by villagers of Seetharamapuram of Machalipuram in Andhra Pradesh. This 23-year-old, blind boy currently runs an organisation which manufactures eco-friendly, disposable consumer packaging solutions, worth Rs. 50 crores.

Srikant is an industrialist who set up the Bollant Industries in Hyderabad. He is also the first international blind student to study Business in the prestigious Massuchettes Institute of Technology. Ironically the same blind student was denied to be coached for studying in Indian Institute of Technology at one point of time. But Bolla is an inspiration, not only to differently-abled people but also to all the youngsters who think negative about their life.

Life is not a bed of Roses

Born in a poor family of a farmer in rural India, Srikanth was born blind. His uneducated parent uses to earn a little around ₹1700 a month. His parents raised him with love and affection in spite of being advice to disown the visually impaired child.

Srikanth was sent to study in the village school where he was bullied, not allowed to play and was pushed to the last bench. The school didn’t have any sort of inclusive educational system. That’s when his father took him to a special needs school in Hyderabad. Here he was grown as the kindness he was shown. He learnt to play chess and cricket and topped in them. He outperformed his class, even got on an opportunity to work with late President Dr APJ Abdul Kalam in the Lead India project. But in a society like ours, none of this mattered. In class XI, Srikanth was denied admission in the science stream even though he scored 90% in the Andhra Pradesh class X state board exams. The board argument was that a blind boy could only take Arts subjects after that.

Fortune favours the brave

Having faced rejection, Srikanth decided to fight against injustice. He sued the government. And after fighting for six months he got a government order that he could take the science subjects but at his ‘own risk’. For Srikanth it was not ‘risking’ anything to chance, he did whatever he could to prove everybody wrong. The blind young boy got all the textbooks converted to audiobooks, worked day and night to finish the course. Lastly, he successfully managed to secure 98 per cent in his XII board exams.

He applied for top engineering colleges like IIT, BITS Pilani, but did not get a hall ticket a she was blind. He did his homework searching the Internet to find the best engineering programme for blind students. He applied to schools in the United States and got calls from the top four colleges. He got admitted into MIT along with a scholarship. He became the first international blind student in the school’s history.

Coming back to his Roots

Srikanth completed his course. He got many offers from reputed international business houses but he refused. He gave up the ‘golden’ opportunity of working in corporate America and came back to India. Bolla set up a support service platform to rebuild, nurture and combine differently-abled people in society. He helped about 3000 students in attaining education and vocational courses. Srikanth also thought about their employment. That’s when the idea of setting up a company came to his mind.

Many people including Ratan Tata and Angel investor Ravi, who met Srikanth were impressed with Srikanth’s business understanding and concept for his company. They not only mentored him but also invested in Bolla’s company. At that time the company was having a small, tin-roof shack in an industrial area near Hyderabad. But Today, Srikanth has four production plants having a turnover of 150 crores in 2018. He now employs hundreds of differently-abled people.

The boy who was born blind is now showing many the way to real success. Bolla was named by Forbes magazine in its list of 30 under 30 across all of Asia in the year 2017. He has won many awards and accolades over the time including young entrepreneur award.

First female to climb Mount Everest with an amputated leg.

0

Listening to the Story of Arunima Sinha will definitely have everyone getting goosebumps. The super girl who conquered Mount Everest with an amputated leg.  She not only proved her ability with her prosthetic leg but also made her a source of motivation, for everybody back home.

Losing Everything

Arunima hails from Ambedkar nagar, Uttar Pradesh. She was a national level volleyball player till 1988 and was unstoppable. But life had something very cruel in store for her. The incident which turned things completely out of her hand. In 2011, she was travelling to New Delhi in general coach when a bunch of robbers tried to snatch her belongings. When She resisted, the robbers drove her out of a moving train. She battled in hospital for her injury, leg as well as her honour. It took her long to convince the police that she hadn’t attempted suicide or met with an accident. The day she was given the amputated leg, Arunima took a vow that many would find even difficult to understand. Her aim, from that day onwards, was to simply prove her worth by climbing the highest peak in the world – Mount Everest.

Against all odds- Fighting it back

The challenge was huge. Arunima decided to fight back. She drew inspiration from Yuvraj Singh’s story who battled cancer successfully. She was determined that she would not cringe down because of her amputated leg.

Arunima first became capable of walking with her amputated leg. After some months, She contacted Bachendri Pal. Pal is the first woman to climb Mt Everest. In 2012, at the Uttarkashi camp of the Tata Steel Adventure Foundation (TSAF), Sinha was signed up for coaching  under her. Arunima also took continuous training in the mountainsby Srijani Ganguly.

Road to Success

On her first attempt while in transit to the summit, she was so happy to have achieved the base camp that she lost balance and fell to the ground, wounding herself in the process. In 2012 itself, Arunima climbed Mount Chhamser Kangri with her amputated leg. She and her Sherpa were the first to leave the camp on the day she started to summit the Mount Everest. Just close to the summit, her Sherpa gave her some terrible news. The oxygen levels of the mountaineers were exhausting quickly. They had to return back and had to attempt their journey again on the following day.

Arunima was persistent on finishing the summit that very day. She achieved her goal of conquering Mount Everest in 17hrs, at 10:55 am on 21 May 2013. Those 7 minutes on the top were the most memorable moments of her life. She wanted to shout aloud to everyone that she had finally done it.

Awards and Recognition

Arunima till date can’t fully explain that feeling, of spending those six to seven minutes on the summit. She says, “I felt like opening my arms in the air and screaming loudly. I wished to tell the whole world that I’m on top, particularly to those who thought a woman with an amputated leg couldn’t do it. I removed my mask and shouted, and my sherpa was staring at me.” She thanked those who called her crazy and made fun of her. Even now whenever people who call her crazy about her ambitions, she loves that feeling. It makes her feel that she is very near to her goals.

In 2016, Arunima entered the Limca Book of Records, as ‘People of the Year’. Sinha is now a  dedicated social welfare worker. She is dreaming to open a free sports academy as Pandit Chandra Shekhar Vikalang Khel Academy for the differently-abled persons and the poor. Arunima is presently donating all her financial aids for the same cause.  There is book ‘Born Again On The Mountain: A Story of Losing Everything And Finding It Back’ narrating Arunima’ story. And in the near future, a biopic is also in making with Alia Bhatt playing the role of this inspirational mountain climber.

THE AMPUTATED LEG GAVE HER MORE STRENGTH

THAN ANYTHING ELSE IN THIS WORLD.

Covid-19 become a turning point for Odisha’s Ganjam

0

Firstly, the hospital in the Ganjam district of Odisha is setting a perfect example for everyone. It has shown the fact that the curve of the COVID-19 infection can go down when the right steps are taken to reduce its impact. In India, COVID-19 is increasing with a drastic rapid rate and it is breaking all the records. Unfortunately, the death rate is also a serious matter, which makes everyone a valid reason to be worried about the present situations. Furthermore, the things that are happening in the present time are quite serious. On the other hand, the Ganjam district in Odisha is working differently. It has brought down the number of COVID-19 cases drastically.

Covid-19 breakdown

Secondly, in May and June Ganjam was the hotspot for the Covid-19 in Odisha. Doctors were putting their heart and soul to improve the situation. Indeed, they were working overtime day and night to save the lives of patients. Indeed most of them were hardly getting enough time to have a proper meal. Only during the changing time of the PPE, they were having something to eat.

Control at early stage – COVID-19

Thirdly, the gradual efforts of the doctor brought positive results and they were able to lower down the cases. In September month, there were only 107 positive cases. Now there is a noticeable decline in the infection cases and the recovery rate has increased drastically which is more than eighty percent. Further, the total death rate is also very low which nearly one percent is only, and the rest of the people are cured successfully. Senior Doctor Nayak was very much enthusiastic about the good drop in the number of cases.

Migrant workers

Fourthly, Odisha was facing a great problem when the COVID-19 lockdown took place in entire India. Most of the migrants were living in the other states and the government decided to bring them back. The numbers of COVID-19 infected cases were increased drastically. In the starting, they were facing a great problem. But they took the positive approach and started working on the update of the equipment and other things. This worked well for them. Therefore, they improved the number of ICU beds and nursing staff. This all worked well and know they have more than 5895 registered professionals as a member of COVID management committees.

Working with resources

Furthermore, in the district, there are three hospitals with Covid-19 treatment facilities. These hospitals have nearly 588 beds and half of them are occupied. Similarly, they have COVID care centers, ICU beds, and availability of oxygen cylinders for the sure treatment. Moreover, these entire basic infrastructures helped a lot to deal with the situation. Now they have the entire situation under control and they can deliver the best results.

Taking effective measures

The next important thing that they followed is the lockdown rules. Everyone was made aware of the coming health threat to him or her. On the block level, the sarpanch was working with their best to make sure that everyone stays in the house and follows the rules and regulations of the quarantine. Further, they also took every safety measure and this is how they succeeded to stop the virus from spreading everywhere. They followed social distance, masks, and other rules and regulations. The best part was the strict implementations of the rules and regulations. In the last, they succeeded and the infected cases reduced drastically and every situation came into control.

Conclusion

To sum up, the other thing they did is effective monitoring. Most of the areas are now in the green zone. Swab samples are collected in lacks and this is making a big difference. Ganjam Collector Vijay Kulange is taking monitoring of everything and working hard in this context to keep everything under control.

0

Firstly, Upgrading skills can be highly beneficial for people who are struggling hard to find the right sort of job. However, getting a person who can guide them in this direction is very hard but Shipra Sharma Bhutani of Jaipur has done it. She has helped more than twenty thousand migrant workers to upgrade their skills and get a reputable job when most of the people were losing their job and had no other income source.

Get a reputable job in pandemic

Secondly, she is running a wonderful organization Capacity which is helping a lot of people to update their skills and get registered online. They can get in touch with the right human resources through the online platform, get a suitable job at the right time, and earn their livelihood. After the crisis of pandemic Covid-19, many had lost their jobs and Capacity helped them to be self-dependent by updating their skills. Skills can get a reputable job for them.

Get a reputable job – different sectors

Thirdly, most of the workers were indulged in the unorganized sector and they were losing their job. However, one should know the fact that skilled workers are always in the demand in every sector. They were suffering due to a huge gap in the demanded skills. Shipra Sharma Bhutani got the list of nearly fifteen lakh such migrants and came with the unique idea of helping such people to get a reputable job.

Understanding the demand

Moreover, Shipra said that she understands the demand and recognized the situation. Many people who were engaged in the hospitality industry could work in the hospital because there was now a high demand for such people. The only thing that was required updating the skills and giving the right direction. She started training sessions for the people and made sure that people can get a reputable job in the same profile but in different industries. This idea works well for the people.

Giving platforms

Furthermore, the startup was asking people to update their skills and be registered for it to get a reputable job after getting enough skills. They had to study the industry to get a similar job in the different industry and many courses were organized for it. The registration fee was nearly fifteen hundred to three thousand.

Basic ideas of the course

The basic idea of the courses was to provide the migrant a reputable job but in a different industry. The courses were taken from the National skill development corporation (NSDC) government of India. Moreover, the best part is that students can get their market sheets online through the government web portal and get the certification as well. Further, this helps them to get a reputable job. The best part is that most migrates are getting jobs in their home states and they are being well paid as well. Therefore, their savings are doubled, as they do not have to live outside of their home city.

Corporate link

The Capacity is helping people to be connected with the HR teams and be placed in companies like Paytm, ICICI, SBi, and other companies. Furthermore, most of the companies are looking forward to hiring the workers for simple jobs like scanning the QR codes and improving the numbers of sales. Hence, the developed skills of the workers are helping them a lot and they can get a reputable job in Pandemic COVID-19.

To sum up, Shipra has launched the App namely Skill Mitra to help candidates. You will not believe it but now companies overseas are contacting them to get the workers. Many companies from Dubai and Saudi Arabia have contacted them to get workers like plumbers and electricians.

He couldn’t go there to buy them as his father came late again that day. When he asked him to arrange for a courier service for the same, his father told him that the charges are too high. He was shocked to know that the cost of the book was less in comparison to the delivery charges!

That’s when an idea popped into his mind.  There should be someone who could carry small parcels like books, papers and other, across the city within a day’s delivery. Some Entrepreneur must think about a system like this,  he thought. That was the moment which lead to his startup.

Lockdown hero who made the difference.

0

Starting with lockdown1.0 to lockdown 4.0, every single day has added to the crisis. Isolation, job loss, stress, deaths, economic downfall, the world have seen it all. However, In coronavirus lockdown, some have faced more difficulties like the daily wagers, frontline warriors, elderly people, migrant labourers, etc. Several has faced no food supplies along with the difficulty of staying away from their families. But there are people who are risking their lives and bringing a smile on the face of those needy. From feeding the homeless and frontline workers, they are servicing tirelessly for society.

Performing Social responsibility in a personal capacity

Chinu kwatra, who operates a centralised kitchen in Thane, Mumbai took the responsibility of serving the ragpickers and security guards during the lockdown. He is a  social worker, MBA graduate and the founder of Roti Ghar, India. Roti Ghar is an initiative started by Khusiyaan Foundation, an NGO which feeds children of slum areas in Mumbai. Every day he and his 14 member team distribute food all across the city. They are working from their homes, collecting donations and transporting food in their four vehicles. Chinu’s  mother and six other sprepare the food. The organization had got support from the Mumbai police in the period of lockdown. They are currently feeding over 5,000, people every day with meals that include puris, dal, rice and vegetable.

Roti Ghar- How it all started

According to Chino the concept of Roti Ghar, came into his mind when he saw hungriness in children from slums. He decided to do something about it. Eventually, along with few volunteers, he started his own NGO and named it Khusiyaan foundation. The concept of Roti Ghar took a proper shape in December 2017. This scheme started serving a hundred children initially. It not only provided food to those hungry children but also started mentoring and teaching them about how to practising basic hygiene. Its main purpose remains to feed children from underprivileged sections to get one normal nutritional food daily. Chinu Kwatra insists, “We ask children to bring their personal plates. It helps us to avoid disposable garbage and in turn, protect the environment.” He adds that apart from meals they distribute toothpaste, brush and sanitary napkins to girl child for their personal hygiene.

An average daily expense of those meals comes around ₹3500. The food plate consists of dal, rice, vegetables. Chinu’s team has added boiled egg in the menu once in a week to complete the nutritional value. This initiative is running successfully with the help of donors. Even, during the lockdown, the foundation is actively working in Maharashtra, Odisha, and Karnataka.

Small steps that will change the world

It was not an easy start for Chinu and his team. Initially, most of the children were shy and would snatch the food. But gradually things started settling and children were taught rules like forming queues, washing hands etc. When the distribution gets completed, Volunteers forms a small group of 4-5 children for teaching and imparting basic education. In this way, education is passed on. Although in lockdown, this step has taken a backseat.Chinu says once the local lockdown is also  over and things start getting a little normal, they will restart the teaching sessions again.

Chinu has a dream of making the foundation work for more social issues. He wants to conduct regular medical camps. The group is working to generate enough funds for the mission even during the lockdown. They want to serve as many people as possible.
